Poll question: Where do DUers come from?
Edited on Tue Dec-12-06 10:52 PM by marmar
I'm a total demographics junkie, and am always wondering about the geographic distribution of DUers. What region of Amurka, or outside of the United States do you come from?
I'll start it off: Michigan, Great Lakes region.

I was born in Indiana and haven't escaped yet. Have kids now, so harder to drag them across the border. My twin brother was able to get away and now lives in Chicago.

172. We spent a couple of weeks every summer up there for a few years...
My uncle had three cabins on the property, so there was plenty of room. Dad liked to cook the fish we caught in his "famous" beer batter. I remember some really good times up there.

Here's a little tidbit - we were up at the cabin when Elvis died. I was inside the cabin playing cards at the kitchen table when the news came over the portable Panasonic radio. I rushed outside to give my parents the news.

40. This is the first DU poll....
...where I felt the need to thank the pollster.
Thank you marmar...I hope you get a large amount of respondents. I look forward to checkin back on it from time to time. A second post where the distributions are plotted on a U.S. map might be informative. It would have been nice if there were maps like that for the DU on a yearly basis since it's inception, so we could see the trends. (I kinda recall seeing one about a year ago). It is my suspicion that when compared to maps of the geopolitical areas of America for those same periods of time we would see that the Democratic Underground has been ahead of the curve. This would be further proof that the BIG DU has had a positive influence over the years.

I am from Tacoma, less than 50 miles south of Seattle Washington. Tacoma by and large is "Blue" as is much of the I-5 corridor west of the cascades. May I suggest linking this poll over to the Lounge too, (if you have'nt already done so that is).

67. Detroit, MI.
Yes, *in* the city. I'm not like most SE MI residents who claim they're from Detroit but then when one asks what part of Detroit they answer, "Bloomfield Township". Of course, these people have never lived in Detroit, the city I called home for almost 40 years, through very good times and very bad times. I still love Detroit.

Upstate along Lake Ontario has very little in common with NYC and nothing to do with Delaware or Maryland! This is the Rust Belt baby, and I've got the holes in my car's fenders to prove it! Any place that routinely gets 2' of snow at a time is not the Mid-Atlantic!

You've got DC and MD in one region, and put VA in the deep south region. I'm from Arlington Virginia, and I have a strong hunch there's a lot of DU'ers from the VA suburbs of DC. Taking that into consideration, I definitely don't consider myself to be from the deep south.

157. First you have to have a sperm and an egg...
These have to be combined in a nice warm womb in a way that prevents hypocritical brain warp and self-centered, maniacal, money-hungry, blood-thirsty thinking. After nine months a little DUer will pop out of his, or her, mummie's tummy. Unfortunately, he, or she, won't be able to type for a few years.

(Sorry, I couldn't resist responding to your headline!)

I am on the "red" side of the state but Spokane is slowly becoming more liberal. They voted for more Democrats this past election so it is changing. Luckily for me I live in an area of Spokane that is considered the most liberal. Still surrounded by knuckle-dragging righties though.
