Should We Just Let Saudia Arabia Fix Iraq?
Edited on Wed Dec-13-06 08:40 AM by berni_mccoy
Saudia Arabia has threatened to side with the Sunni's if we withdraw. Should we let them fix what we broke?

It seems clear that the Middle East isn't going to agree on how to deal with Iraq and that Iraq could very well become part of Saudi Arabia or Iran and Syria.

Could it be that the people of Iraq want one of those solutions?

Will America choose for them? Or is continuing the occupation of Iraq until it is established as its own independent and secured state (which would take DECADES) the right thing for us to do?

As Bush 'listens' the situation grows more complicated by the day. The one thing that is absolutely crystal clear is that the Bush Administration is incapable of dealing with the situation.

1. Saudi Arabia can't fix Iraq either.
At best, they would be one player out of many.

Sadly, I have come to the conclusion that Iraq is probably going to be "fixed" by an extended civil war, perhaps with regional powers picking sides and throwing resources into the conflict.

And worst of all, it didn't have to happen at all. This is entirely Bush's fault.

4. I think you're right about that.
The worst case scenario I hear discussed reads like the 30 Years' War in Europe...

6. "This is entirely Bush's fault."
I have to agree with you one hundred percent. When the new Congress convenes, their first act should be to march on the White House and demand resignations from Bush, Cheney and Rice, immediately.

Sure, I know pigs will fly first, but I can dream.

2. Um...no
Saudi Arabia does not have the willpower, manpower, or firepower to do this, especially considering in the larger context of religious civil war, they are now surrounded.

Eastern Africa is now predominantly fundamentalist, Iraq is headed that way, and Iran will back the opposition. I see SA, the Sunni center, being overrun from east and west.

3. The Sunni's are by far the largest sect
around 85% of Muslims are Sunni, the Shites are the minority every where except Iraq and Iran.

7. You mean except in the theatre of battle involving American troops.
Reassuring, huh.

5. Saudi Arabia is pissed off because they lost the last rigged
election here. This is what is going on. I was always suspicious that they were the government behind our government and they were using us for their own nefarious purposes. It's time to put the House of Saud in their place and to take our government back.
