My predicition: 25,000 more soldiers to Iraq (and then what?)
It is pretty clear that Bush will send more soldiers to Iraq. He will never pull them out. Besides now we have Saudi Arabia threatneing to back the Sunnis. And Iran and Syria backing the Shia.

Oh, what tangled webs we weave. Could this mess get any worse?

So where do all these new troops come from? Got me! Last I heard our military was already really stressed. So I guess we just stress it more and what? Hope for the best?

And what good will it do? Probably not much. That should give us what - close to 170,000 troops over there. And Baghdad is a city of 6 to 7 million people. So these new troops will work on training the iraqi army? Which just means that they are training the various militias over there.

Jeez!

1. Isn't the need for more soldiers
the reason why so many Fundy Families are deciding to have gazillions of children?

I am quite certain they all want to join the military to help spread Christianity all across the globe. <smirk>

2. And then we hit the streets, stage general strikes, stop shopping, blockade government buildings...

Because in the end, it's going to be up to us to stop this madness, not a new Congress. The war beast needs to be starved.

3. I wish we had the draft. Then the students would be mobilized to
stop this madness. That is what really ended the Viet Nam war - students hit the streets by the gazillions.

4. Considering what has happened in the past few days
With the Saudi's, I'm wondering if we won't be seeing the Saudi military in Iraq soon. The Saudi's most certainly do not want the Iranians to have a lot of influence and have said they will back the Sunni's in Iraq. My fear is that the whole region is on the brink of a sectarian meltdown.

8. Our number hit 2939 this morning. Over 600 Iraqis killed just this month.
So many dead for absolutely nothing. We lost 2973 on 9/11. Now we have lost that many more plus the 30,000 wounded. This whole thing is just so completely insane.

And I don't think Bush cares one whit about that. And I don't think Cheney does either.

12. cheney cares about cheney. He is a manipulative SOB
who is getting very rich from this war. he probably recognizes that Bush is losing it (control, sanity, rational thinking, whatever) which leads me to wonder how he feels about being president. I suspect he is not very happy at that prospect. Like a snake, he much prefers operating out of dark, slimy corners, away from the limelight. Having to lead in public would be extremely tiring and frustrating for him. He is not suited for it (few are) nor does he want to be tied to constitutional processes. The beauty of being VP meant he could do anything he wanted, and when necessary, control the president to act appropriately.

As for Bush, he has never had any empathy. blowing up frogs, scarring pledges in college, his treatment of death row Texans, - the man may be barely sentient, but that consciousness has absolutely no room for empathy, sympathy, or complex thinking.

13. Cheney is just like a lot of men in business. Its all in the bottom
line and playing the power game. They could care less about any one or anything.

Look, any man that goes out and shoots domestic birds - just blows them out of the sky one after another - is not all there.

That's what.

10. I think they are planning on putting an American Soldier on every corner
in Baghdad.

If we could that here in our inner city we might not have so many dead young men.

11. Hopefully, before he can implement this, the Repukes will wake up
and put a stop to it. If they're forward-looking, they'll realize that this isn't going to change the situation in any positive way. It's too late for that. And this will be called the "McCain plan". If it's an unmitigated disaster, which it will be, then McCain's chances of gaining the Presidency in '08 is dead in the water. The Repukes may not care about the troops or Iraqi civilians, but they certainly care about power and more troops is exactly the wrong decision if they want a chance at control in the next election.

14. Oh yea. McCain will be the fall guy for this.
But I have lost any respect for McCain that I ever had. He is sucking up to everyone now. And its not very appealing.
