Are the neocons leading up to a draft... |
|
but are waiting for January, so that somehow it will be up to the Dems to non fund or go along. From what I have seen when the senators, generals, and other pundits tell us the choices , then the neocons say add more troops which they don't have. I also think that they are planning to hit Iran.

and they know they need more soldiers. Their strategy is to somehow make the dems defund the war. They are trying to have it both ways if the Dems say draft they say that they are against it and if they don't fund the war they will call them cut and runners. They will also say that the Dems are putting the soldiers in jeopardy.

4. Some wise philosopher once said |

"The best way to end a war is to be ready for it." Thanks to bush and the republican party and the PNAC and members of free republic and other morons who are too fucking stupid to know a fucked up situation when it hits them in the face we are not ready for a war; any war. But you are probably right, bush will want to go to war with Iran AND WE AREN'T READY. The Army and Marine Corps say they need more manpower because of bush's disastrous policies. He is wearing our military services out.
Republicans say government does not work, then they get elected and prove it.

if he isn't stopped. The neocons want him to do it and some of the generals, knowing that the military is not ready. We also aren't ready for anything else. Now that the dems have won everything that has been hidden is coming out in the open...

Seriously though, as long as the baby boomers who remember how the draft and the Vietnam war tore this country apart are alive, this country will never have a draft. All bets are off after we're gone though.

12. Welcome to DU, seize the time! I can't totally agree with you about |

the boomers, though. I remember one of my brothers sweating out the draft and my mother being very upset about his lottery number and both of them were gung ho about kicking off this bloody disaster in Iraq. My father in law went to great lengths to ensure that my brother in law got out of going to Nam and they were the same way.
Conversely, the Vets who actually served in Nam, whether by draft or voluntarily, and experienced combat were the ones who attended and spoke at every local rally prior to the invasion of Iraq and after. Seems that those who were most affected are the ones who made and still make a stand for peace. :hi:

The Democrats will not support a draft, regardless of whatever trickery the neocons may be attempting. The people elected our party to improve the situation of a country sick of war. Do you think anyone will honestly hold it against us for NOT using that power to send their kids to the Middle East?
I am in prime drafting age. Were it not for my health (disabled), I'm sure that I'd end up there. Just the same, I know that many people my age - knowing what they do about the administration and the background of the war - simply would not go. They'll end up with jails jam packed with kids, and the people will wake up and realize how wrong things have gone. It's easy for people to ignore the grim truth of our country until their children are taken away to fight. That's when it becomes a whole different ballgame, and the neocons don't want that.
As someone else said here a day or two ago, a draft in this age would be stupid besides. The army of today is not the same army we had decades ago. Modern training procedures are demanding and lengthy, and sending a bunch of raw kids pushed through in a month would not improve anything. To the contrary, it would turn a terrible mess into a disaster. Incompetent and undertrained people, who are very likely mentally and/or physically unfit for serve, are put in the middle of a delicate and dangerously unstable situation.
