Do Not Believe Saudi Arabia! |
|
They have come out and said if the U.S. withdrawals, they will support the Sunni population in a civil war in Iraq. This is just a political tactic to keep our troops in Iraq. They are completely working with the Bush Administration on this. Why else would Cheney go out there a week before they made such an announcement? The resignation of the Saudi Ambassador to the U.S. is just plain and simple political grandstanding to scare Congress into believing the bluff.
And who says they AREN'T already aiding the Sunni regime in Iraq? Chances are, they are already as involved in it as they are going to be.
What will the result be if they do anyway? Do we allow thousands more of our soldiers die in an endless occupation? Do we stay the course in until the number of Iraqi's have died in this illegal war is more than a million? The violence isn't ending with us there. In fact, it will only get worse.
The answer is to bring the troops home now and put the Bush Administration on trial for war crimes.

2. I think we're on the same wavelength...I said this yesterday... |

If the NeoCons had their way, they would get themselves a Sunni strong-man just like Saddam, only more, well, controllable. And, just like Saddam, said Sunni strong-man could then massacre as many Shia as necessary to put the population back in submission.
Problem is that the rest of the world, especially Iran, Russia and China, won't sit by and let that happen.
So...perhaps the NeoCons could get the Saudis to funnel weapons to the Sunnis and put in place an Iraqi ruler hand picked by the Royal Family. All the while Bush could feign breaking diplomatic relations with the Saudis.
In other words, use the Saudis as a front...

Bring the troops home and get off our addiction to oil.
Dont let the troops fight for the Saudis who arguablly attacked us on 9/11.
She also said, call their bluff, lets see the Saudis fight.

The pressure on the Saudi royals is coming from the Arabian Sunnis. Hakim Six-pack would like nothing more than to overthrow the House of Saud, a filthy rich family whose money comes from the country's only resource.

8. That only supports the point |

If the Sunnis can pressure the royals, then this will be beneficial to both them and the Bush administration. And who is to say they AREN'T ALREADY INVOLVED?

13. Iraq is going to be (or already is) a proxy war. |
|
It is going to boil down to the future of the Middle East - either Shiite control under Iranian backing, or Sunni control under Saudi backing.
I don't personally think Saudi is playing a game. I think they are in effect saying "F*ck, George, we went along with this escapade and look what it got us. We are not going to be happy if you pull out and leave this sh*t on our doorstep."
I'm not saying the U.S. should stay, but I'm saying that when we leave there will be a huge vacuum that Iran is expecting to step into. Don't be surprised if the Saudis act to block Iran.
The last thing they want is an ongoing civil war split along sectarian lines on the other side of the Iraqi border. The second-to-last thing they want is a "peaceful" Iraq that is annexed to Iran.
