CBS reporting this morning that Bush's SOTU had a 77% approval
rate.

I don't know if that's political spin or an accurate relating of poll results, but coming on the heels of Alito's coronation (thank you, DLC) I've come to the unhappy conclusion that this country is probably too stupid to survive.

2. It was from a flash poll of people who watched the SOTU
The people who devote an hour of their time to watching Bush are far more likely to be Republican partisans than the rest of the population.

You can see the phenomena in a flash poll no matter what party the president belongs to.

3. that's 77% of viewers who
are overwhelmingly Repugs. When you consider that, it's not a number for the WH to cheer much about.

7. With the random nature of the speech
I'm torn between calling it his "Million Little Pieces" speech or the
State Corporate Report On The Union's Meanderings.

15. Speaking of "too stupid to survive":
Polls Show Many Americans are Simply Dumber Than Bush

By Paul Craig Roberts

01/29/06 "ICH" -- -- Two recent polls, a Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll and a New York Times/CBS News poll, indicate why Bush is getting away with impeachable offenses. Half of the US population is incapable of acquiring, processing and understanding information.

Much of the problem is the media itself, which serves as a disinformation agency for the Bush administration. Fox "News" and right-wing talk radio are the worst, but with propagandistic outlets setting the standard for truth and patriotism, all of the media is affected to some degree.

Despite the media's failure, about half the population has managed to discern that the US invasion of Iraq has not made them safer and that the Bush administration's assault on civil liberties is not a necessary component of the war on terror. The problem, thus, lies with the absence of due diligence on the part of the other half of the population.

Consider the New York Times/CBS poll. Sixty-four percent of the respondents have concerns about losing civil liberties as a result of anti-terrorism measures put in place by President Bush. Yet, 53
percent approve of spying without obtaining court warrants "in order to reduce the threat of terrorism.

19. My guess is that the SOTU demographic skewed Repug
The hardcore Dems watched it, but most middle of the roaders probably switched to cable to avoid having to watch a political speech. Remember most folks come home from work and want to be entertained.

20. SOTUs may get 'good' approval ratings
but they are nothing more than pandering speeches to the masses telling them what they want to hear. It's all nice for Bush to get up there and say 'democracy is good and I want to help families', but we all know he's full of shit.

But on the face of it, objectively speaking, I'm sure you could take parts of it, and ask me do you agree with it, and not knowing who said it, I might say yes, but I would know he has no intention of following through on what he claimed he wants done.

Remember, everything that comes from this administration is double speak - things like "No Child Left Behin" and "Clear Skies Initiative".

Ultimately though, most here are right that only the base watched this, with a few political junkies as well. I skipped it, because I would rather not damage my TV.
