Senate precedent: KARL MUNDT
I wish Senator Johnson all the best for his recovery, whatever ailment has befallen him. The last thing that matters for the man is the Senate right know; however since every radio and TV station is salivating over the Republicans perhaps "winning" back the Senate, may I offer the history of Sen. Mundt of South Dakota:

======

After suffering a severe stroke in 1969, he remained in office through the end of his term on January 3, 1973, but was unable to attend sessions of Congress and was stripped of his committee assignments by the Senate Republican Conference in 1972. He did not seek reelection in 1972. He was succeeded in the Senate by James Abourezk.

No one seems to have a clue what's going on with this "surgery" either. But it sure sounds like an aneurysm to me.
