Good advice for Dems from an unlikely source
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5445086/

From Joe Scarborough no less.

"Listening to the chatter from my perch on Capitol Hill makes it clear that the Democratic Party is in dire need of guidance. So here is a Republican’s humble suggestion on how to gain traction with the majority of American voters.
Hammer home these three themes over the next ten months.

1. There is a culture of corruption in Republican-run washington.
2. There are record deficits, record debts and record government waste in Republican-run Washington.
3. Soldiers are dying across the world for reasons that are still not clear three years later.

Keep it simple, stupid."

(I did leave out one gratuitous comment about Ted Kennedy)But anyway, I cannot disagree with his advice. You know Bush must be in big trouble when even Republican guys like Scarborough would like to see the Repubs defeated. The themes he cites have resonance and would be a good jumping off point for a Democratic stance. I think one of the Democrats problems is that there is SO MUCH in this administration that is wrong, bad, evil, corrupt, insane, irresponsible and illegal that it is hard to narrow the focus from all of the potential targets.

1. We need unity more than guidance...
If every Democratic senator had stood with Kerry and Kennedy, it would've crippled the already-lame duck and sent a message to ALL of AMERICA; "We're here to save the country."

2. I think he's the guy that told us ..."Dean can't win!"
He's right about keeping it simple though. If you want to score points with the simple, by all means, keep it simple. If Bush's faithful aren't SIMPLE, I don't know what is!

3. I was thinking about this and the statement that Tweety made to
Keith Olberman about having debates between two Americans on opposite sides instead of the talking heads and paid politico's. At this moment I am very worried that American's will never wake up. What will it take? Hopefully we as dems and progressive can get on the same page and hammer home the atrocities of this crooked bunch in DC. In the meantime godspeed to Cindy Sheehan and Patrick Fitzgerald.

6. Paid politicos must go.
Get rid of the pollsters, the pundits, the talking heads, the spinmeisters...the people need to eliminate the middlemen and the candidates and elected representatives need to return to speaking directly to the people. That class of people need to be sent packing along with paid lobbyists.

5. I heard one good line from Dean

7. The republicans already are prepared for that line of attack
1. There is a culture of corruption in Republican-run washington.
Didn't you hear? The Abramoff mess is a bipartisan scandal, and the Democrats took money just like the Republicans did. Its both sides.

2. There are record deficits, record debts and record government waste in Republican-run Washington.
Deficits don't matter, the economy is booming, and the tax cuts will magically turn everything around.

3. Soldiers are dying across the world for reasons that are still not clear three years later.
Saddam was a bad man.
