Others have been unable to serve in Senate
For long periods of time: former SD Senator was out for TWO YEARS (repuke)

Joe Biden unable to serve for SEVEN months

so the SD SOS should just STFU now

1. His prognosis is good once he recovers from the procedure:
Once an AVM is removed and a person has recovered from the procedure, there should be no further symptoms associated with that malformation.

4. Senators who are ill have kept their seats even though absent from the chamber.
Edited on Thu Dec-14-06 11:56 AM by Divernan
I got this quote from an article in another post - will go back and add the link on edit.
However, Senate historian Don Ritchie said senators serve until they resign or die. Nine senators have remained in the Senate even though illnesses kept them away from the chamber for six months or more.

6. Remember Reagan>>>>>>
Put up to run for his second term as president when the GOP KNEW he was suffering from Alzheimer's? And how about Strom Thurman who could not even walk by himself. He had to have two people bring him in to his seat. Then they had to help him write. Wake him up when he went to sleep during a session - cut his food and feed him and he still was considered a senator....It just shows how crass the republicans are. They are probably messing their pants hoping he can't serve.

7. Strom Thurmond was essentially bed-ridden and in the hosp for months
and the Repubs didn't have a problem with that.

9. Let's not forget Arlen Specter: Brain Tumor, Hodgkin's Disease
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/vote2004/key-races/pa_specter.html

"During his work in the Senate, he has also faced several health scares. In 1993, Specter was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to undergo brain surgery and radiation treatments in an effort to stave off the disease. Then in 1998, he had to endure double-bypass heart surgery, yet was able to return to work at the Senate only one month later."

http://www.valdezlink.com/pages/senatorarlenspecter.htm

"Senator Specter is expected to receive ABVD chemotherapy every two weeks over the next 24 to 32 weeks at the Abramson Cancer Center.

"It is expected that Senator Specter will be able to perform all duties of his office including those related to the chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee."

Talk about a Senator with life-threatening health issues.
