You Want Fiery Liberals?
Don't look to the dem party to put them in charge of the party's leadership It's not where the party's at, and it's not likely to change soon. The repubs have dragged the national dialogue to the right, and it's not the first time they've achieved this. Dragging the dialogue back to the middle or moderate left sn't going to happen overnight, and it can't happen until the dems take back the congress. We need our fiery liberals, but we need moderates too. It's tricky striking the right balance when you're the opposition party. Are the dems doing a competent job? We'll only know that in November.

3. I'm looking but I am not seeing any moderate democrats in the base.
I think the reason is that there is no moderate base, the country is polarized.

The DLC pushed the notion of moderates for the past 25 years, and they had some early success in places such as the south where conservative democrats were common.

But since the mid-90's and the onset of polarization and concomitant dissolution of the moderate middle, the strategy of going for the middle has been an ever increasing losing proposition. In 2006 I don't think there aren't enough moderate voters left to get anyone elected.

4. I'm not convinced that it's the liberal thing that is the problem
I think it is the lack of commitment to principle. A real liberal who actively speaks out for what he believes and won't let them frame the debate by pointing out their lies, half-truths, spin and fuzzy logic would be hard to beat.
