20. Well, I'm cool, so far. I'm in Puyallup. The winds are howling and it's
really pissing; but I'm warm and dry in my home library, eating a Caesar salad and drinking a nice Cabernet/Merlot blend.

I'll stay on as long as I can. :-)

11. I used to live in the Mojave Desert where we got the Santa Anna winds.
Lots of days we'd get gusts up to 100 mph. It would feel like your car was about to flip over when you drive in it. It would sandblast the paint off the side of buildings and the sky would turn brown from blowing sand. This was typical weather.

Not a hurricane or tornado, although it often felt like one. ;)

16. Hurricane: No.
Hurricane force winds: Yes.

Not a cyclone either, like the Columbus Day storm, but it's going to be damn close.

7. Looks like we're going to get it in Utah on Friday with a big
snow storm. Just looked at our weather forecast and it says the storm may stall over the state. I like the snow, but it depends on how much we get! :yoiks: We're supposed to get winds, too, but only 25 mph.

We still have snow on the ground from the last snow storm we got. I guess I'll need to haul in a bunch of wood tomorrow for the woodstove...!

9. it's starting to rachet up in Norcal just south of the Oregon border....
Light rain at the moment, moderate winds, a little less gusty than late this afternoon. It should get really windy here after midnight and the rain should pick up steadily from now until morning. I'll be shocked if I have power all night. I'll also be surprised if my fence is still standing tomorrow-- I lost parts of it last winter and the repairs are not as strong as the original.

10. They say Whidbey Island will get hit the worst.
http://kuow.org/pvf/pvf_pugetsound.asp

Go to Episode 4 to hear very descriptive interview of the difficulties of getting to Whidbey Island.
The other episodes are pretty colorful too, in case you missed the original broadcast re Puget Sound.

(EPISODE 4 - OCTOBER 19th, 2006) Of all the ferry runs that cross Puget Sound, one gets canceled for rough seas more than all the rest combined. More than two hundred times last year, the Keystone ferry, between Whidbey Island and Port Townsend, couldn't leave the dock because of dangerous currents in Admiralty Inlet. For our series on the churning waters of Puget Sound, producer John Ryan reports from the bow of the M-V Klickitat.

17. Good luck! I've never seen it this windy here. So. Oregon.
My power has been flickering off intermittently.

I first wondered if this would be a bigger storm, yesterday, when it was unusually warm here.

Let's hope our roofs remain intact.

18. Argh--I just came home in it.
The bus ride was hilarious.

We plowed through a puddle so deep under the W. Seattle bridge that the water came up to the windshield and a wave of brown water came through the bus. Then, there were small cars stalled (silly, silly drivers!) in both lanes and the bus had to slalom through the stalls. We all gave the brave driver some hearty cheers for her courage and driving skill.

I'm in jammies now and my butt is almost dry--my clothes were pretty much soaked through.

Next up: a glass of wine and some candle-gathering.

24. Thanks! I just got a call from my husband
and it took him an hour and a half to get from Bellevue to Mercer Island!

Warm, I'm not too worried about...I just want to have power long enough to be able to make dinner, but who knows when that'll be? I figure it'll be at least another hour for the Mercer Island to W. Seattle leg of my huband's commute.

Good luck to you! (And get out the flashlights.)

31. Storm warning: thousands urged to leave homes
BC Hydro is urging tens of thousands of customers, many of whom have been without power since Monday's windstorm, to consider leaving their homes until the lights come back on.

Hydro's recommendation to hard-hit customers on Vancouver Island, some Gulf Islands and the Sunshine Coast came as another storm is forecast to blast through Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland late tonight and Friday morning.

snip

Environment Canada is forecasting winds of 50 km/h to 90 km/h in the Lower Mainland tonight and into Friday morning.

On Vancouver Island, gusts are expected to reach 100 km/h.

33. It took me more than an hour and a half to get home,
in large part because of people driving like maniacs downtown. Gotta love these folks who decide to do a u-ie on the main bus route through the city. Also gotta love the ones that block the intersections. A number of areas have water across the roads, causing cars to stall out. There are some trees down. And we haven't even gotten to the serious part of the storm yet.
Hope all the rest of my DU neighbors are safe and dry tonight and tomorrow.

Gee, thanks, BushCo, for not believing we have global warming.
