OK Who In Bush's Adminstration/Repub Party Has The Nerve To Stand Up to Bush??

It is clear that efforts at 'quiet diplomacy and persuasion' behind the scenes have not moved Bush at all.

The question now is who in his Administration and/or the Republican Party will go public and openly, defiantly stand up to Bush and tell the truth --either Bush needs to change his strategy in Iraq or he needs to leave office?

Amazingly enough, whoever is the first person to take this step will likely get lots of public support.

... as the opposition party we have opposed Bush and told him in no uncertain terms.

However, short of impeachment and removal, it will take insiders and Republican Party officials to tell Bush it is time to go before anything happens. Count on it.

It is exactly the same scenario that played itself out in Watergate. Nixon would have fought it every step of the way except a group of top Republican officials visited the WH and told him it was time to go and resign. Which Nixon did a few days later.

And they will realize that they are, once again, on their way to defeat unless he steps down. My guess is that the Democrats will investigate through the first half of 2007 and so much crap will be exposed (more than even the most tin-foil hat among us can imagine) during these investigations that the Republicans will have to force him out or lose their party entirely.

This is what happened with Nixon. I'm not sure which scenario I would like to see more.

... career Republicans can gain nothing from aligning themselves in any way with Bush and his disasterous policies leading up to the 2008 Presidential Election.

Once the Congressional investigations get 'cranked up' the corruption exposed is going to be a shock to the conscience of the people. But here is the kicker ..... Republicans already know what is about to come out, know that there is no way to keep it from coming out, and know that Democrats have been quietly preparing for this moment. It will a mad dash out of the box once the Democrats take over the majority in January.

If you were a Republican in this environment, I am betting you are trying to discern the best timing for showing yourself as in full opposition to Bush and his policies with the twin problem of not acknowledging your own responsibility for this mess by voting with Bush on every vote for the last 6 years.

So in essence how do you 'undo' your lockstep votes with Bush in a very short period of time in order to gain public support for your reelection?

There is only one chance, and that is to be part of the solution by helping to remove Bush from the public stage.

But who in that group will be the first to publicly condemn him? Rest assured, once one significant Administration official and/or Republican Party official does this, the flood gates will open and lots of other Republicans will follow their example.

IMHO this will all crumble very quickly once this threshold is breached, just like Nixon and Watergate. However, remember it took years for Watergate to reach that point. So who will make the trip up to the White House and tell Bush 'it is time to go?"
