Iraqi vice president who met with Bush calls on U.S. to set timetable for withdrawal

WASHINGTON: Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi called on the Bush administration on Thursday to set a timetable for withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.

At a news conference in Washington, al-Hashemi, a Sunni leader who met with President George W. Bush and other U.S. officials earlier this week, said the timetable should be "flexible" and depend on development of a capable Iraqi security force.

"You've done your job," the vice president said at the United States Institute of Peace, a U.S.-financed think tank.

Currently, however, he said, "There is across-the-board chaos in my country," with roaming bands of murderers.

1. I wouldn't want to be that guy
On the one hand he knows the Americans have got to go - on the other hand, when they do go he runs a good chance of getting hung as a collaborator.

2. Another 'Kerry was/is right' moment. Reid should resubmit Kerry-Feingold plan
as soon as possible.

4. Press should ask lawmakers for when they first noticed Iraq was in Civil War and
why are they continuing to pretend Iraq ISN'T in Civil War.

Kerry-Feingold was all about recognizing that the mission in Iraq was not the same and that the US has no business in the middle of a civil war, as Iraq had become.
