Next time someone tries to bring up the "positive" about Iraq...
We hear it all the time from the pro-war wingnuts. The media isn't telling us the entire story, we're only getting the negative! Did you hear we've built new schools in Iraq? We've restored electricity and running water! Much of the country is under control!

To this, I say simply: I DON'T CARE. All these "feel good" stories do not negate all that is wrong in Iraq. Building a new hospital or school isn't going to bring back 3000 American dead soldiers. The fact that some a few areas of Iraq are secure does not take away from the fact that Baghdad itself is practically in a state of civil war. We're not getting the full story from Iraq? Perhaps they want a newsreport like this:

Gunmen in military uniforms kidnapped shopkeepers and bystanders Thursday from a major commercial area in central Baghdad in what was apparently an attack against Sunnis, the second such mass abduction in a month. In other news, a new elementary school was opened in Iraq. (first part of this report is true, http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16200183/ )

1. Earlier this week
on his morning show, Don Imus noted that in any nation on earth, if there was a school-opening and a bomb that kills 12 people and wounds 54, the bomb is news. There is no reason to hold Iraq to a different standard.

2. What good are new schools when the children
can't go and the teachers are getting murdered?

3. If 140,000 foreign troops were in Illinois
and 100 men, women, and children in Chicago were being gunned down or exploded on a daily basis for the past three years, I doubt the headlines would be "Bears clinch Division Title! Victory is certain!"

6. I heard a reporter today on MSNBC
He was reporting from Baghdad. He was saying that it is so bad in Iraq, the reporters can't go around like they used to to get their stories. It was very unsafe. Also he remarked that they are not allowed to report as much as they want.

Sounded to me like it is so unsafe they can't get out to report the 'good' stories, yet they can't report the really bad news either.

7. Caught the tail end of a story last night
Edited on Fri Dec-15-06 04:46 PM by Tactical Progressive
about how they had fixed up this school.

Only problem - children were being kidnapped outside the school and being sold off.

Now they have AK-47 armed guards around the school.

I'm sure your typical self-delusional right-winger would have no problem with a situation like that in their own school district. And if the media reported the situation they'd be upset at all the 'negativity' in the news over it.

8. Hey, a little girl made it to school today alive and unharmed
Admittedly, she got shot on the way home, but let's look at the GOOD news.

9. Kool-aid drinkers
Cannot look at reality. War is war. And we are killing so many of them, that schools are sort of irrelevant. They had schools before we got there. And they could go to them without getting shot.
