ABC "Black History Month: Does It Fuel Racism?" OMGosh!
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 09:42 AM by Tinksrival
I was checking out the SOTU headlines for spin this morning and this was the second headline for the ABC web sight. I thought it was odd so I opened the article and couldn't believe the first paragraph! Talk about a right wing agenda! Disgusting!

Here is the first paragraph:

Black History Month: Does It Fuel Racism?

By BRYAN ROBINSON

Feb. 1, 2006 — Recently, Larry Watson saw proof in one of the college classes he teaches that Black History Month was needed more than ever.

"I asked the students in my class whether they knew who their Senate representative was," said Watson, who teaches music and sociology at three colleges in Boston. "No one knew. And when I asked who was Sen. Edward Kennedy — the most activist senator in our country — the only thing most of my students could say was that he was fat and that he was drunk. I hate to think what would have happened if I'd asked who was Shirley Chisholm."

????????????!!!!!!!!!! WTF

NEW YORK - Morgan Freeman says the concept of a month dedicated to black history is "ridiculous."

"You're going to relegate my history to a month?" the 68-year-old actor says in an interview on CBS' "60 Minutes" to air Sunday (7 p.m. EST). "I don't want a black history month. Black history is American history."

Black History Month has roots in historian Carter G. Woodson's Negro History Week, which he designated in 1926 as the second week in February to mark the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.

We need to make black history an integral part of our history, not relegate it to one Month every year.

Black History month does not fuel racism. It is a sign of racism. It means that, in 80 year, we have not been able to change our society enough so that it includes all people.

7. Much as I like and admire Freeman, I think he's wrong on this.
Abandoning Black History Month would simply allow the schools to ignore black history, black achievement and black heroes 12 months of the year, instead of 11.

2. If someone wants to be a racist they'll bring their own fuel.
They don't need any outside help.

4. Nope - it's them dern colored folks that fuel racism
(in my best redneck accent)Yessiree, if we didn't have all them dern colored folks around these here parts, we wouldn't be having these problems, you understand me? Hell, I aint got no slaves, my pappy didn't own any slaves, that was hunnerds of years ago. Why they gotta keep bringing that shit up fer? And din you got that der Jesse Jackson, always causin a ruckus over some shit. If dem folks would jest keep der yappers shut, none of these problems would even exist. Iffin they don't like it here so much, why doesn't they just pack up and go back where dey came from?

6. Have you ever noticed how many groups or clubs tend to be
white only, and no one ever says anything about it?

Seen in from many groups, some of which I was quite surprised at.

10. I know exactly what you're saying.
Which is why I've said many times before, that if white Americans fully understood where this world will be 50 years from now, they would make Affirmative Action an amendment to the Constitution.
