Now, really. If your boss fired you, do you think you'd get more time than it took for you to clear your workspace of your personal items and turn over whatever keys or other items assigned you and be shown the door? Have any other Secretaries of Defense been given a parade when fired? Especially one who was part of a cabal which scripted a war based on lies or tried to grab power from every agency he could? What an obscenity!

1. Things don't have to make sense anymore.
What a bizarre spectacle. A parade for a total genocidal disaster and it's founder. I hope dick cheney gets a parade too.

Sometimes I think I'm on the wrong planet.

2. Well, MacArthur got tons of parades
And got to speak to a joint session of Congress.

And all HE did was disobey a direct order from the Commander-in-Chief and push us to the edge of World War III.

4. The so called leader of a nation shouldn't ignore reality.
Me, I can sort of ignore reality, but a school bus driver or a president certainly can't.

5. There was a reason for all that pomp and circumstance
Contempt for us, the taxpayers. Bush was saying, "I don't care what the American people think, this is my power thing and I'm going to look at all the pretty boys in uniform today and enjoy it". And guess who picks up the tab?

Real soldiers don't give a shit about all that pomp and circumstance shit, only toy soldiers, like the ones who got us into this mess in the first place give a damn.

6. Do they understand in Washington how this looks outside the beltway?
Totally disgusting.

Rummy should have been tarred and feathered and run out of town.
Instead he is a hero.

21. How it really is far from the beltway
Actually, they understand that Suzy Sixpack is worried that her hubby's cycle plant might leave town (leaving him no choice but to join the Guard like his brother, or the Army) and that Buster might let his grades drop if he doesn't get enough playing time. The TV is for Joe to watch once he comes home, as she is fixing dinner.

That is how they can get away with what they do in Washington DC. The spectacle is so Joe can feel good about his brother being in Iraq.

9. I get the feeling it is like the Royals all being gen. and then
giving Orders of the Bath and Black Eagle to every other royal. Rickover hated all this silly stuff and said so when he was trying to get the nuke navy going. When your birth gets you the top and you need not any thing that is great it shows a lack of a great country I think. It seems to go with our being less than what we were.

I think that these people inhabit a very different world than the rest of us. Tumsfeld was not only canned for being a failure, but his failings have caused the deaths of thousands of people.

13. When you know stuff that your boss wants secret
Face it, they're trying very hard to get Rummy to just disappear. Don't go away mad, just go away. Here, we'll tell the world how great you are (or, more to Rummy's liking, give him the opportunity to tell the world of his greatness himself) and then you can go on your merry way.

This is nothing more than an attempt to buy his silence.

Julie

American leaders praise rumsfeld, most nations would have him imprisoned.

The whole dog & pony show proves that bush* allowed rumsfeld to resign only because of political pressure. He still thinks rummy did a heckuva job.

31. Bush couldn't give him the Congressional Medal of Freedom (been there--done that)
Bush couldn't give him the Congressional Medal of Freedom (been there--done that) the traditional reward for loyal Bushites who screw up while in office and have to be dumped for the sake of political expediency.

Think of it, military parade with all the trimmings is even cooler than some boring old medal ceremony and so in keeping with Rumsfeld's ego and so in keeping with his role in our great undertaking in Iraq.
