Primary Fear: Musings on the upcoming DU bloodbath.
I love DU. Period. End of story. That is why I've decided NOT to post in any thread that deals with individual candidates and the Democratic presidential primaries. I know what I want in a candidate. First and foremost I want a candidate who demands an end our participation in the war on Iraq.

Out of Iraq NOW. That's my litmus test. Everything else is cake.

I refuse to get into pissing contests on this board that I love so much. I will read every snarky, vitriolic post in every flame-baiting thread, but I will not participate by adding my 2 cents. My blood pressure and my sanity can't hack such drama.

I wish we could be kind to each other during this process, but I don't think that's possible. I came on board here after the primaries in '04. I've been told how bloody this place was then and I'm anticipating it will be even bloodier now.

That's my pledge. NO participation in primaries drama.

I hope I can stick to it.

Give a holler if y'all need anything, I'll be in the Lounge. :hi:

2. One thing about the 2004 primaries
after the dust settled, a vast majority of folks worked for and supported the winning candidate. You have that to remember--so you can come out and participate again once the candidate is nominated.

3. Once the dust settles, I'll definately jump in
I just don't want to get caught in the crossfire until then.

4. I chose NOT to join DU until after the 2004 primaries.
Yes, it was bloody back then, that's why I stayed out of it. I'll do the same during this coming up primary season.

5. Why is it all such a sin?
I don't understand all the judgmentalism about who can post what.

No party of human beings having to pick one leader will ever agree.

There are a lot of nasty people even here, but running away from them does nothing to help you learn how to handle them, and that is the attitude that lets the bullies win.

16. What I don't understand is why people take personal declarations
and say the person saying "I won't do (whatever)" as judgementalism. That is 1 thing I do not understand. Just because someone posts what they won't do and why does not mean they are passing judgement on others. Just saying how they feel and what they will/won't do.

Very understandable. I probably will do the same thing, since I like Hillary Clinton and if she runs I know what to expect from DU. It's not worth the trouble, I'll probably hang around her official blog when I want to talk about her with other like minded folk.

8. I agree. This time around DU is going to be a landmine
The Hide Thread button will be getting a real workout because it will be the best way to get through 2008 primaries.

9. Look at it this way: Now's the time to say it BEFORE they become candidates...
Here's mine: If I have to read one more thread about Clark, who I have no interest in whatsoever, I think I will: :puke: :nuke:

11. 2004 primaries
was the only time I have ever had to put anyone on Ignore. There were a couple of people who would consistantly hijack threads with negatives posts about the candidate - same tired rehashed material, over and over. That's what Ignore is for.

I'll probably be using it again.

13. If there isn't already there should be a primaries forum...
Edited on Sat Dec-16-06 05:41 PM by originalpckelly
where DUers will go to debate, so that it doesn't get spread all over the regular forums.

The postings should be under a nickname, not the person's actual user name, so no one will know who they are debating.

Any threads which are primary related should be banished to the primary debate forum.

It might also be a good idea to have a forum for each possible primary candidate, which also uses the nickname system.

14. I thought that was what GD Politics was all about
That forum is full of candidate discussions, but it appears candidate discussions are not limited to that forum.

Perhaps they should be.

17. As we get closer, that will happen.
I think it was late 2003 when the split happened last time.

18. Earliest post I find was Dec. 17th 2003...
That would put the split this time a year out. Something tells me it will happen sooner this time around...

And I like the nickname system. Let everybody slug it out in a separate forum.

19. "That's my litmus test." I hate litmust tests.
I care about the overall grade, instead of obsessing over a single issue. single-issue-based politics is a bunch of BS.
