First, he's speaking out on and supporting Dem opposition to domestic spying.

Now he's bucking the WH and is planning to travel to Syria.

Where were you when we REALLY needed you, Arlen?

1. Wutever - he had *5 years* to enact meaningful oversight. Fuck him.
No matter how many credulous DUers fall for his pretty words. (Not you CW, just in general.)

10. No, he hasn't. He's only been chairman for 1 1/2 years:

You can check for yourself by looking at the "Chairman" pages.

Secondly, if he did enact harsh oversight, the Republicans would simply have removed him from the chairmanship like they did Rep. Joel Hefley:

That's what happens to honest Republicans.

2. Now the initiatives don't have his name on them
But it will also be interesting to see if Arlen's words actually translate into actions. He's talked a good game before, but when it came time to vote or investigate, he suddenly remembered that the Elephant flies above the Eagle, and it wasn't good politics to serve the public interest.

8. He was NOWHERE, but if he's angling to switch....
>>>>Where were you when we REALLY needed you, Arlen?

... I say take him up on it. We need the insurance seat in the Senate and there are plenty in the DEM caucus who are more backwards than Arlen.

9. Arlen's a 'finger-in-the-wind' kinda guy...
He couldn't have survived in the Senate for so long without seeing which way the wind was blowing first.

The weird thing? He used to be regarded as a nutjob, with his Single Bullet Theory and his references to 'Dutch Law' during impeachment.

Now people look at him like he's some kind of level-headed guy. I still think he's a nutjob, having known about him since I was a little kid, and he was District Attorney in Philly.

12. I always point out that Specter was over in Iraq meeting with Saddam
and came back and reported to the Senate how "strong" Saddam was, having faced adversity in his role as Pres. of Iraq ... gave a glowing report ...

not long after that, Saddam invaded Kuwait ... with Bush41's blessing ...
