I know, he may not be the ideal “liberal” candidate. Personally, Dennis Kucinich would be my first choice. But let’s be real for a minute here. To be electable by the majority a candidate has to have charisma, be good looking and come across and being somewhat grounded in reality. Mr. Kucinich fails at least two of these three tests.

My take is that we Democrats need to win in 2008, not necessarily put our most idealistic candidate out there to lose in the General Election.

Mr. Edwards truly speaks to me in regards to the “Two America’s”. That’s where we will win this, by appealing to the working middle class. Once we’re in, we can shoot for true equal rights for everyone, gun control and anything else dear to one’s heart. But first we NEED to win the majority.

We know through recent examples that the rethugs will stoop to any tactic to hold onto any power they may still have. So we need to win the “average Joe” to take the first step towards our goals. And winning the “average Joe” will require us to put up a universally palatable candidate who doesn’t rock the boat too much from the get-go. Again, we can try to change our other injustices ONCE we are in a position to do so.

So, again Mr. Edwards, let me know how I can help you achieve your goal, the next President of the United States!

5. Once we get the vote counting methods cleaned up,

the sky's the limit on who we get elected. Next election will be just like the last one.

Before the last one I said, and I was not alone, that if the vote counting was fair, any good Dem would be elected. As it turned out, Kerry, a very good Dem, won the election but the vote counting had not been fixed and he refused to look at it according to Mark Crispin Miller.

Believe me, the voting machine theft has not stopped. In 06 the flip was greater than in the 04 election. It's just that the landslide was so great that they couldn't flip it enough, or failed to flip it enough.

If we at DU stay on this issue and keep the pressure on, the sky's the limit once we have a democracy again.
