TIME Person Of The Year is..."YOU???" - Oh...my.... |
|
Changes in 2006 were far bigger than technological changes from individuals. This is pathetic.
I think if I bought time hoping for a deep article on someone who's created profound change, I'd be utterly disappointed to see that the cover says "You."
A friend already described it as a "cop out." I couldn't have said it better myself.
I think if I had the subscription, I wouldn't even read the article simply because it's so empty of intrigue

I cancelled my subscription to TIME and NEWSWEEK during the Monica scandal. I am glad I haven't renewed either one.

2. They really had no choice. |
|
I mean, they obviously couldn't make a Democrat Person of the Year because, well, the media just doesn't do Democrats.
They couldn't give it to a Repug, because that might hurt sales, what with the 'Pugs being unpopular at the moment.
Giving it to a peacemaker or humanitarian would show how far the * Administration has fallen from normal standards of decency, and we can't have that.
So the magazine just panders to our vanity, in an effort to make us feel all warm and cuddly about ourselves, so that we go back to sleep.

7. I was originally thinking of actual Democrats, but... |
|
...you're right. They'd never make anyone who smelled even a little bit of having democratic tendencies (with a deliberately small "d") Person of the Year. That would just be pandering to "damned libruls" in their eyes.

You actually objected to "Make a Democrat 'Person Of the Year'" .. ?
It should be "Make a DemocratIC 'Person Of the Year'" .. ?
Am I a DemocratIC?

22. It's unfortunate because without so much good reason to be cynical |
|
about Time's motivation for its decision, it would have been a rather poetic gesture that appeals very much to my idealistic side.

The election wasn't a big deal for non political junkies until a month or two before. No single figure makes headlines like in a presidential election.

|
The fact that the Person of the Year position is not supposed to be an honor notwithstanding (remember, Lindbergh, Hitler, Stalin, Khrushchev and Khomenei all got the spot, and rightly so), this one's vapid even by recent standards.

"The American Soldier," and "The Whistleblowers." I thought, "Man, how on Earth could they get any more general?" Apparently they have decided to just give it to everybody in the world. What a total cop-out.
