By Lisa Lambert

WASHINGTON, Dec 14 (Reuters) - More Americans went homeless and hungry in 2006 than the year before and children made up almost a quarter of those in emergency shelters, said a report released on Thursday by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

"The face of hunger and homelessness right now ... is young children, young families," said the conference's president, Douglas Palmer, the mayor of Trenton, New Jersey.

The survey of 23 cities found civic and government groups received, on average, 7 percent more requests for food aid in 2006 than in 2005, following a 12 percent jump in 2005.

Requests for shelter rose by an average of 9 percent in 2006, with requests from families with children rising by 5 percent. More than half the cities said family members often had to split up to stay in different shelters.

1. This will only increase over the next few years.
The bottom is falling out of this giant swindling machine.

I see it where I live too.

2. I have recently
read that China is selling off buying out and otherwise unloading through various means 1.1 trillion in US currency. The impact would be significant on US buying power and prices for staple goods we all rely on.

I believe you to be correct and that the curtain is up and the Ponzi scheme is revealed. And who suffers but all us little folk whilst the investor class just shift their fungibles over to what's solid.

Time for a huge wake-up call here on the streets of America.

6. Right. "Food Insecurity".
I think that one reason behind the new wording, is that many people can't believe that any fellow Americans are malnourished.

They don't LOOK hungry! They all look plump and doughy, so they COULDN'T be HUNGRY. C'mon.

The truth is that malnourished people can be overweight, and vice-versa. Look, if you're eating stale hot dog buns with pancake syrup poured on top for breakfast and lunch, and some cheap hot dogs for dinner, because that's all you've got, you will be overweight and malnourished!

8. In the meantime, the Bush twins live the good life
They have no insecurity levels. They were born of rich parents and follow the "party on" of the elite.
