UPDATE from Radio Lady about last week's appeal for guest(s)...
I received several PMs about suggested guests for Friday's recording session. Due to the weather here, I was not able to get to the station AT ALL so Monday's program will be pre-recorded from earlier in the year.

DUer Calimary was my choice for a guest. I was supposed to speak with her again on Friday morning. Initially, I thought I'd try to get through the Thursday storm and things would be OK. However, the wind was much stronger that I'd ever seen in Portland. We tried to secure items in our backyard and the wind picked up at about 4 PM to almost gale strength.

We sat down to dinner Thursday at 5 PM to watch Keith Olbermann and BANG!... the power went out. We did the candle thing and I sank into bed around 6:30 PM. The electricity went back on at around 10 PM.

We did not have any damage to our home or property. One small photinia bush was uprooted, but gardener/husband replanted it the next day.

Others around here were not so lucky. My hairdresser, who lives in the rural area out west, towards Hagg Lake, had eight trees come down on her property. Her electricity has been out since the storm on Thursday. The first night, she went to a hotel, and then she has been staying with friends.

One of the big intersections near our home, SW Teal Boulevard at SW Scholls Ferry Road, had significant damage and was still closed tonight.

Suffice it to say that we weathered the storm. Thanks for all your kindnesses and concerns, everybody. Calimary has kindly agreed to do my show on Friday, January 5th. It will be heard on Monday, January 8th if all goes well.

I will be responding to others who PMed me and asked if they could be guests on my show. I have your names and contact information on a list, and will be considering doing this again next year!

Warmly,

Radio Lady Ellen in Oregon

3. Sara, thanks...
Haven't thought about those lyrics for a long time!

The raw power of nature is truly humbling. The wind was whistling and the wind-driven rain poured sideways across our yard. The storm hit about 4 PM Pacific Time and howled until almost daybreak on Friday.

Reminded me of Florida's hurricanes -- the ones I went through while growing up there in the 1940s and 1950s. I left Miami in 1962, only to return for a couple of years in 1970, 71 and a few months of 1972.

Also, I have a picture of myself and my Cocker Spaniel dog the day after Boston's record snowfall in February 1978. Buffy and I were sitting at almost the level of the street sign -- about three feet up in a drift! My stepson and his buddy, who were stationed at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts, came home to dig us out. People were stranded all over for days. It was a miracle that my husband and I made it home that night, survived the next week and lived to tell about it.

In peace,

Radio Lady in Oregon

6. Hello Lady!
I'm glad you weathered the storm ok. We lost power too, about 9pm... but it was back on by 1am. I think most of the trees in the wetlands made it through ok, but the path and the bridge have been flooded, so I haven't ventured very far through the park to see.

Is that Wonder Woman?
Or Pippi Longstocking? (The braids could give her away...)

Thanks for checking in. Our ground is totally soaked. It squishes when you walk on our grass. The birdies were out at the bird feeder by Friday morning.

Wonder what the weather has in store for us until, oh, how about June 2006?

We were supposed to go to Chicago on Dec. 9th, but Grandpa got sick and we had to cancel. Yes. And we were scheduled to land at PDX on the return flight at 8:00 PM on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2006. I'm glad we decided not to go!

Have a happy, healthy, hearty holiday season!

In peace,

Radio_Lady

12. You know how people say something is "before my time"?
"Sailor Moon" must be "after my time"...

But, maybe it's something to discuss with my 16 year old grandson?

9. It's so nice to be loved... EVEN WHEN YOU'RE BAD!
Romance novels, anyone?

Thanks, Cleita... I've finished my review of "Eragon" and should have posted it yesterday. Must get to it tonight before the onslaught of two grandkids...

Away, posthaste...

Luv ya!
