Just like with the Vietnam war, the war in Iraq will not end until masses of people take to the streets, protesting.

Violent street protests and a rift in the Democratic Party had a lot to do with Nixon winning in 1968, extending the war for another five years as far as U.S. involvement, and another 7 altogether until the Communists won.
An immediate pullout of troops wouldn't end the Iraq war, just U.S. involvement in it. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis are going to die or flee their country, and there's really nothing we can do about it. Thanks, W.
