Surge is the word.
It seems that the deciderer has deciderated, or so the buzz seems to have it, and he has deciderated in the usual madison avenue marketing manner with the meme 'surge'. We are going to surge into Iraq with another huge additional force (enough perhaps for their Iran Plan? but I digress.) We are going to commit atrocities on a grand scale. We are going to bomb and blast and mow down the enemy.

We have it all on power point slides, as noted elsewhere on DU (see here: http://turcopolier.typepad.com/sic_semper_tyrannis/files/200612141_choosingvictory6.pdf). Isn't that grand?

We will "Choose Victory". Our NeoClowns are not done yet. They will murder and destroy one last time to get their war back on track. The carnage will be unspeakable. We are going to murder Iraqis by the tens of thousands to save our rulers from the embarrassment of defeat, and yet we will fail to conquer Iraq.

And what will we do? We've gone down the road of using our electoral franchise, our vote, to take control of the public institutions of government in a democratic republic. We have suffered through fraud and corruption and persevered, and we have tossed the corrupt ruling party out of power in our national legislature, primarily over this issue of a bad war, but our rulers don't care. They have looked at our pathetic attempts to overthrow their rule and they have laughed at us. They hold us in contempt.

So what will we do? What can we do? What is our ethical responsibility when the institutions of the state are no longer responsive to the sovereignty of the people?

1. Add to this ... the collapse of the American Dollar....
Increased efforts to win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people... as China dumps a trillion dollars that sends our economy in a tailspin.

My My... 2007 is going to be hell on earth....

2. Warren, read Thomas Jefferson and you will have your answer
Of course, I bet you already knew that and were just asking rhetorically.

4. Actually it is more than a rhetorical question.

We've worked within the system, and on paper we have prevailed. In reality our victory in November appears to have meant nothing. I find no comfort or answer in 'well we just have to overthrow the government'. First, how exactly would we do that? Second, the end results are likely to be far worse than the current situation. So my question is more than rhetorical. Got any GOOD ideas?

7. I do
General strike.

One week of an effective general strike will force the elected elite to listen to the people.

8. If the Unions truly backed Democracy that would indeed happen
What they appear to back though is corruption of the same caliber as the politicians... It is all about money and power, nothing else matters...The lives of Iraqis or even Americans makes no difference at all.

6. And they are avoiding "Escalation".
As always with these criminals, confusion and obfuscation is one of their prime weapons. And, as always, they are refighting the Vietnam Debacle. So we are not escalating the war, it is a surge.

The people voted to end the war, the criminals in the white house have decided to escalate.
