Poll question: Shouldn't the neo-cons be investigated and sent to jail if possible? Yes or No.
Edited on Sun Dec-17-06 01:37 PM by devilgrrl
I write this after reading the post with the LTTE to the LA Times about Max Boot and his flunkies (Frum, Pearle, Adleman, etc...) being consistently WRONG about Iraq and everything else for that matter. Why are these people still walking freely??? IMHO they are responsible for countless deaths of US military and innocent Iraqi citizens. They are responsible for waisting who knows how many BILLIONS of US taxpayer dollars with absolutely no benefit to the nation as a whole. It wouldn't surprise me if they accomplished all this illegally, should they be investigated for fraud, lying to congress, profitteering, etc? And if there is something illegal, should they or should they not be tossed behind bars for the rest of time?

You tell me.

1. No. At least not for the reason you've suggested.
Throwing someone in jail because they were "wrong" sets an insane precedent that I'd never want to encourage. Now if it was proved that they broke laws, such as lying to congress or profiteering, then I'd be all for it.

I'm actually a bit surprised that anyone at DU would suggest making speech, however heinous, a crime.

3. Actually I was going for the lying/profiting angle...
many apologies for not stating that correctly.

7. There's probably still time to change the O/P.
I read through it again, but still didn't see any reference to lying to congress or profiteering. It might make it more clear for others. :)

2. If there is a legal basis for it
There probably is.

Though we know how slippery they can be and Rovian tricks are not paranoia on this level. Having to prove a case against them beyond a reasonable doubt is a standard they are aware of and you can bet that the Bill of Rights will suddenly become reasonable and not a bar to keeping us safe when it comes to accusations against them.

4. So, what ever happened to the concept of trials?
If they broke laws, then build a case, arrest them and give them a trial. Sorry, just throwing people in jail because you don't like their politics (no matter how despicable) is just wrong and if I read your question correctly that seems to be what you are advocating.

22. Any thread you post will bring out the self-righteous
There are some just waiting to pounce on any word as their chance to prove themselves superior personally, it's the weirdest thing.

Interesting side issue, is we are talking about the same people who would deny trials to others. They have proven it when it comes to Gitmo, and no doubt they would have continued in their efforts when it came to American citizens who objected to the policies.

But we can afford to let them have the rights they would deny others.

14. Wondered the same thing...........
How can our nation standby while bushco continually destroys our nation, as well as other nations, year after year without ANYONE really challenging HIM???? As I heard on 'Meet the Press' this morning, 'When will the men in the grey suits show up at the Oval Office and tell bush HE can no longer continue BECAUSE HE IS DESTROYING the Republican Party?' AND by extension our nation and the world. Abu Ghraib Prison should be HIS final residence and address.

I think they should be investigated and sent to Iraq, preferably Anbar Province. They could catch the "flowers and sweets".

24. I don't know if there could be a clear case made that these people have actually broken any laws.
However, at the very least, they should be shunned, and denied any more privileged public platforms from which to spew their wrong-headedness. No more guest spots on talking head programs, no more commentary accepted by editorial boards of major newspapers.

Let them stand on street corners with placards, and hand out pamphlets -- that wouldn't deny them their right of free speech, it would merely deny them the privilege of having their views accomodated, disseminated, and given the imprimatur of acceptability by the mainstream media.

It's high time these people were called out for the dangerous radicals that they are. It's not illegal to be wrongheaded, the real crime is that their delusions have been allowed to pollute our national discourse to the degree that it has.
