Acon you need to know about! |
|
I recently received an invitation in the mail from Capital One to transfer balances to my account with them for a low 3.99% APR fixed ("hassle-free" of course). I am already a customer of Capital One. I'm in the process of paying down my debt and this is a good rate. I called to initiate the transfer and was told that there would be $75 fee to do so. Even though the letter stated "No Fees" in one area and the $75 fee in the fine print, I agreed since I would save this in interest from the other credit card in about two billing cycles.
I just received my statement from Capital One. The transfer was listed as a transaction with no $75 fee. However, the interest rate applied to this transfer was 9.9%, which is my purchase APR. I called to have it corrected to the low 3.99% and was told that they had no record of such a rate being offered to me! I was told to contact "General Correspondence" in writing to try to rectify. Thankfully, I kept the invitation. The supervisor even told me that it was a good thing I kept the original letter since most people throw it away and have nothing to "prove their case." Hmmm... guess I'm not the first. Not very "hassle-free" Capital One!
This was not ME, but Ireceived it in an email from ahow to save group I belong to.
That btd's are always out to get you!!!!!

Thanks for the heads-up!
Don't use Capital One meself, and still use snail-mail to pay my bills because I want as little info 'out there' as possible, but not everyone has that luxury.

I finally got rid of them all, but for my debit card and my Am Ex (that I pay off every month).

6. Oh, I have credit cards. |
|
I have one I use for my small business, one that I use for personal purchases, and several others that I don't use at all. I never carry a balance on any of them, but I still get the rewards from the two I use.
I would never say credit cards are wrong. They are very necessry for some things, like renting cars, buying things on line, etc. You just have to be diciplined enough to pay them off every month.
My point in posting thiswas to alert peopleof the deceptive practices in the "free or low interest transfer offers". Again, if it sounds too good to be true, whatch out!

5. Comcast did the same thing to me |
|
I was offered a rebate if I bought a certain desktop and purchased an account with Comcast's ISP. Comcast said Dell would give me the rebate, and Dell said the same about Comcast. Second time, Comcast said they had no record of such offer. This is why I want to be an attorney. They shouldn't be able to get away with shit like this. I hope most of my time goes to defending civil liberties, because this sort of thing isn't nearly as important as habeas corpus, but it still pisses me off. They deserve a nice, fat, class-action suit.

to rip off consumers.
I never used to have to worry about getting cheated by big companies. Now I'm discovering that I have to watch them like a hawk. It's getting so bad that I don't want to buy anything anymore. Really. Seriously.

company that we have not had hassles with. I have a truly special place in my heart for Insurance companies, but getting any company to correct their mistakes is a major undertaking. It's not so much that they want to clearly see the error to avoid lost income, it's more a dysfunctional system which always requires a 'supervisor' to understand company policy or how to read an invoice. They make you earn any correction of their mistake in time, high blood pressure, and exasperation.
