Poll question: For those who usually get snow this time of year:
Edited on Mon Dec-18-06 03:28 AM by Nutmegger
Provinding that you haven't had one, when was the last time you had a "White Christmas"?

The weather has certainly been odd. Even this year, the temps have been extremely mild. I haven't been wearing a coat. Amazing...

Four years for me.

I took out my garbage this morning wearing a t-shirt and shorts. This weather is really freaking me out! My lilacs have massive buds right now.

edit: spelling

6. Northern Vermont
here, where there's usually snow on the ground from December to mid April. We've had only about 5 inches of snow to date this year. Last year wasn't much better. Incredibly mild so far this year. Last year was also short on snow and cold.

9. Last year. Yes, the weather is warm this year, but I remember a time
26 years ago when it was 70 degrees on Christmas day... in Wisconsin.

While I completely agree with global warming, I'm not seeing any real oddities here in MI. The weathers always freaky. :hi:

11. The people here in Cleveland are crying that is may not be a white Christmas
The media is all over this white Christmas story, one station is predicting 50's late in the week while I think one is predicting snow just to appease the viewers.
Moving here from Missouri, we saw may a Christmas without snow, we may have had 2" of ice but may Christmas did not have snow.

12. When I was in grade school, we used to start getting snow about
mid-December off and on through February. We were guaranteed about five snow days a year.

However, while my state, Tennessee, isn't known for massive snows, we DID get some. Now, it's been about eight years since we've had more than a dusting.

What's snow?

13. Northern Maine here
Last year we had a couple of inches of snow on the ground come Dec 25th. That was it, just a couple of inches, and during the entire winter we had only 3 or 4 storms that dropped just a few inches at a time.

Year before that; one big storm (28") and a few small ones.

I can remember back when we used to get dumped on regularly: so much snow that it took 8 hours of shoveling, plowing, and snow throwing to clear the driveway and walkways.

This year?

The ground is bare and hardly frozen and I'm able to go out on the deck wearing a T-shirt and jeans. My long johns have been sitting in the closet so far this year.

14. As you get older the years start to run together, so I don't remember exactly.
I do know that here in western Wisconsin the chances are very slim that there will be a white Christmas. At this time we have no snow on the ground.

15. Ditto what you said about getting older.
We haven't had so much as a dusting in the banana belt of New Hampshire. I was in southern Vermont on Saturday morning and people were out playing golf!

19. Just last Friday here in Wisconsin it was in the mid 50s and sunny.
A very beautiful day for December. We do not seem to get the snow and the bitter below zero cold that we used to get when I was a kid.

16. been 3 yr that snow hit christmas... but not three years since snow
forit to hit on christmas isnt indicative of amount of snow. that being said, 3 yrs ago it was a warm winter and a dump every few weeks then right to warm again. last year no snow and nice all winter. this year we have had one good snow and the rest nice. today suppose to get 2 inches of ice... fun.... not

17. I didn't make a choice because I can't honestly remember..
I think last year we had a nice little dusting on the ground, but I can't be sure...but this is Iowa, most of our snow comes in February.

20. We had snow a year ago
But then it rained on Christmas Eve day and the rain melted most of it.

The year before we had a thin covering of snow. I think it was gone before New Year's.

And this is the Ottawa Valley, once reknowned for lots of snow and cold weather.

...and in fact, it's snowing even as we speak. A couple of years ago it didn't snow until toward the end of November, though, and that was freaky.
