Anyone see the Army Ad with female soldier wearing make up
I saw it during the Jets Minnesota game yesterday - CBS. Showed a female medic in the field, with lipstick and eyeliner.

I don't quite understand what they're going for with that.

Join the army and you can still wear makeup?

We even supply cosmetics?

Things can't be that bad in Iraq if you have time to do your face?

Yes, there are fems in the military?

All of the above?

4. They do that because faces don't look good on camera
without minimum make up. Are you under some impression that those people in the recruiting ads are actual AD military? And yes women can wear make up while in uniform, even the field uniform and many do. No, the military doesn't supply cosmetics for free; they can be purchased at the PX/BX. If you mean by 'fems', you weren't aware that feminine women join the armed forces, I can assure you we do.

And thank you for that trip down cliche lane. It's been a long time since I heard those stereotypes.

5. I never doubted that there are fems in the military
To me it would seem more of cliche' tho to show women wearing makeup in combat situations.

It's like watching - I don't know - women athletes wearing jewelry and heavy makeup while competing. I'm sure there are women who always want to look their best and look traditionally feminine in all situations, but it makes me sad if some women do it because they feel like they have to prove they're girls even tho they like sports. And I said some women - not all women.

7. You're right.
It is sad that considerable pressure is still put on women to look 'traditional'. It sure the hell was when I was in. We had to wear make up and perfume when we were in Class A's.

However, I doubt many of the women in Iraq are doing much more than a schemer lipstick, if that. Mainly many of them want to keep some reminder of a gentler, less insane life.

If you think recruiting ads are joke, we vets laugh our asses off when we're not spitting mad.

6. They could have used neutral colors
like men do on tv shows and movies, but using obvious colors seems to me like a subconscious message

8. Good point
Believe me, I'm not one to argue that recruiting ads have a better grip on reality than your average Freeper.

9. It's not the little bit of make-up that bothered me about female troops in Viet Nam.
It was the high heels and jewelry they wore while standing guard on the perimeter. Guys weren't allowed to do the same.

As if.

10. Oh, yet another myth.
They wore Playboy Bunny outfits; the hair spray lacquer on the beehive hairdo sufficed for the helmet.
