Fighting Crime Using Videos on YouTube
When Detective Sergeant Jorge Lasso of Hamilton, Ontario, wanted to circulate a surveillance video while investigating an apparent murder near a hip-hop club, he thought of his own children, who are in their 20s.

“They get all their news from the Internet,” he said. “I realized if I was going to communicate with this demographic, we were going to have to go that way.”

2. Neat, unless someone is circulating a video of you at a protest
and keeping tabs on what you do and why you do it.

Cuts both ways.

4. John Kerry
is a proponent of the WINN Act. This is a bill with the noble purpose of bringing broadband internet to "the masses". It is a proposal for the FCC to free up and allocate frequencies not used in the old UHF TV bands and use them for "wireless" internet connections. Now. Why is this Machiavellian. I also enables really super cheap surveillance devices, portable ones, solar powered ones, cameras on every block. Only an IP address and mouse click away.

A friend of mine works for an alarm company. He had a call and had to fix a sensor at a supermarket. It seems they kept running into the sensor with fork trucks, destroying it for the fourth time. Steve went home and cut out a steel angle iron piece to protect the sensor knowing he had the tools and angle iron at home. Well, the alarm company's GPS system clocked him at his home address and they docked him one hour for what the ASSumed was "lunch". Orwellian Assholianism at it's very bestest.

They videotaped themselves street racing and then posted clips on YouTube, the hugely popular video-sharing website. Entitled "Racing a Turbo Civic," the video came complete with credits and was viewed by thousands of people.

Among those who watched it were Winnipeg police officers, who recognized their city's streets and launched an investigation. Two teenagers, 18 and 19, were recently arrested and face several charges.

"It's just blatant disregard. You know, this isn't Hollywood. This is real life and people could have been killed," said Constable Jacqueline Chaput, a Winnipeg police spokeswoman.

(snip)

Police in Norway recently fined a man who posted a video of his wild driving on YouTube. Last month, an Indiana man was arrested on burglary and theft charges after a police officer saw a clip of a robbery on YouTube. The recording was made by a hidden camera in the home that was robbed.
