SEATTLE - The death toll from a storm that left more than a million homes and businesses in the dark rose to 12 on Monday afternoon when four people were found dead of apparent carbon monoxide poisoning in a Burien home.

The four, including a 14-year-old boy, were found, along with another person who was clinging to life, in a home near the White Center neighborhood south of Seattle, said Chief Russ Pritchard of the North Highline Fire District. The victims had been running a generator in the garage and the garage door was closed.
