In an explosive telephone argument that led to her firing, publisher Judith Regan allegedly complained of a "Jewish cabal" against her in the book industry and stated that Jews "should know about ganging up, finding common enemies and telling the big lie."

A spokesman for Regan's former employer, Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., told The Associated Press on Monday that the remarks were made during a conversation between Regan and HarperCollins attorney Mark Jackson, who took notes. At the time, the two were discussing the future of a controversial new novel about baseball star Mickey Mantle.

The spokesman, Andrew Butcher, released the comments in response to a threatened libel suit from Regan's legal representative, Hollywood attorney Bert Fields, who had called earlier reports of inappropriate remarks "completely untrue" and added that the publisher "didn't have an anti-Semitic bone in her body."

Since 1994, Regan had headed the ReganBooks imprint at News Corp.'s HarperCollins. She was fired Friday.

The allegations first emerged earlier Monday when The New York Times, citing two unnamed News Corp. officials, referred to unspecified anti-Semitic comments.

That person is horrible! It's understandable now how this person could publish OJ's book.

I have noticed that this year we've seen a big up tick in Antisemitism. I'm an uptight Irish guy, but this freaks me out. I grew up in a neighborhood that was predominately Jewish, so I guess I never really noticed that people still thought this way. WOWZA! Who knew?

I feel sorry for all my old school friends from when I was young, it's sad to see people have to face such awful bullshit.

You should be my son...the ONLY Jew in his school. He's been called "Jew-Boy" and "Dirty Jew" at school....many times, by different kids. Anti-Semitism is alive and well in this country, as is racism against AA. It'll never change. Never has, never will. It's even MORE accepted these days...by some...especially when it's disguised as 'something else'.

Today, my son had the pleasure :sarcasm: of having ALL the teachers at his school sing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" to the kids at the assembly.:grr: It never ends. They're all so shortsided/self absorbed.

I think it has something to do with the general cruelty the people of America have been exposed to the past few years, they're becoming cold and callous. I mean they've seen Abu Graib, and people made jokes about it.

17. Unfortunately, I'm not kidding.

We visited the school because of anti-Semitism every year, starting in kindergarten, until 7th grade. 7th grade and this year, 8th Grade, have been peaceful for him in that regard. I think it just isn't fun for the kids anymore. So many years of having him there...he became old hat to them. The fun wore off. FINALLY.

I was one of about 5 Jews at my school of about 1500. One day I was talking about religion with some of my Christian friends (let me take the opportunity to say that my friends are, IMHO, really great people) and this dude I never saw before told me that if I'm Jewish I deserve to die. My friend (a Methodist) told him to mind his own damn business but I was pretty stunned. I never told a teacher or the principal or anybody except my parents.

What really bothers me most is the utter ignorance of Judaism among a sizeable segment of the population. I had one person ask me if I was going to be castrated at my Bar-Mitzvah! Ok, that's an extreme example, but it was just constant dumb questions combined with shock when I told people I believe in God but not Jesus. I invited that particular guy to my Bar Mitzvah, and he said he learned a lot. It's not that he's a dummy or anything, but lots of people honestly don't know anything about other religions or belief systems. I'm the first Jew that a lot of my friends have met.

One of my friends is a Hindu. The day after 9/11 he didn't come to school. The day after that, he came back and told us all he was afraid of being harassed. I said "why? You're a Hindu". He gave me that look like, "Seriously, Rocky, you should know that won't matter to some people". Fortunately, there were no incidents of any kind toward the several individuals of Indian descent at my school. The only fight that ever occurred there during my tenure was between two guys over a prom date. But still, there's always the feeling of being an outsider and that the majority of people just don't get you. It made me a much more committed Jew than I think I would have been otherwise, though.

Regan looked straight into the camera and for almost 10 minutes, delivered a pseudo stream-of-consciousness poetry riff mocking Clinton. Referring to his sad boyhood, she mocked his loneliness, then proclaimed that he built himself up and called himself KING, because "I am rich and I can do what I want!" And I (the poster) will claim credit for insight. Back when KERIK's book for REGAN was debutting, she hosted him on her Faux interview show. His tale was of his missing mother, who inexplicably abandoned him as a tot. She never showed up for a custody hearing. The premise of the book was that this tough uber-male had this hole in his heart, thereby setting the pants on fire of tough wingnuts of all genders. As she probed him about the book, she and KERIK locked smouldering, HOT gazes. Once the mother-thing was done, she moved on to his heroics (which were what?) on 9-11. She asked WHERE HE WAS when the planes hit. Without missing an eye-lock, he said, "Stepping out of the shower." She swallowed and held a long breath. The image of nekkid KERIK was plainly etched on the Faux camera lens during the LONG pause. He added, "In my office." Another LONG pause. He added, "After WORKING OUT." There was another swallow. I suspected BACK THEN that something was cooking between publisher and author, and it weren't spaghetti.
