Conservative Mallard Fillmore cartoonist arrested
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061211/LOCAL/61211035/

Bruce Tinsley, who draws the conservative Mallard Fillmore cartoon, was arrested for DUI in Indiana this month. He had been arrested for public intoxication in August. With the Democratic victory and all, it might make you feel sorry for him if you don't look at some of his old strips -

Of course, The Onion has their enquiring photographer on this -

2. Mallard Fillmore, about a conservative duck, appears in almost 400 newspapers nationwide
For some reason that struck me really funny.

A conservative duck?

3. I think the guy should definitely be arrested...
...not because of the DUI, but because he hasn't written ONE FUNNY THING IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE DAMN COMIC.

It's actually in a pretty prominent spot in the Washington Times.

Uh..wait...thats not really a good thing.

The Times has all the b-list comics that nobody reads, like "Dick Tracy" and "Apartment 3-G."

4. Conservatives can't be funny
because there has to be some sort of recognizable truth or reality at the heart of true humor , and most of their thought is based on lies, as they currently stand.

6. Thats not quite it
Humor comes from opposing authority or from the small striking back at the strong. This is why humor works for liberals and progressives. They are typically attempting to tear down old established injustices.

But conservatives find themself defending the old school. The established power. The system. Doing jokes from that point of view will just come off as cruel and mean spirited to most people.

15. Their "blame the victim" mentality
just isn't funny. Making fun of those you perceive to be lesser than you is not humor. How many yuks can you get when the only thing you've got is demeaning people?

8. Mallard Fillmore is about "the idea of personal responsibility" -- Tinsley
"What's the ideological core of Mallard?" W.A. Mann asks Mallard Fillmore creator Bruce Tinsley:
"It's the idea of personal responsibility -- an idea we're getting farther and farther away from," he says.

Typical.
