Whom here does Cindy Sheehan speak for?
For starters, she does speak for me.

She speaks for the over 2500 dead American soldiers who can no longer speak, and their greiving families.

She speaks for millions of fed-up Americans who don't have the spotlight and bully pulpit that she does.

Who else?

3. I'll speak UP for her.
One of the things I like about Cindy is she doesn't say she speaks for anyone but herself.

I agree with most of her sentiments and I will support her, but I won't lend myself to a turn of phrase -- "speaks for me" -- that has been turned into something negative. I'd prefer to say that I speak up for her.

5. um,
you might want to rethink this:

"She speaks for the over 2500 dead American soldiers who can no longer speak, and their greiving families."

It's so clearly not true. Many family members of soldiers who died in Iraq, don't agree with Cindy.

As for who speaks for me: I do, and by proxy, Senator Leahy and Rep. Sanders.

6. she speaks for herself. that is the power of the woman
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 12:19 PM by seabeyond
she clearly, articulately and passionately speaks for herself, and thru extention her son. though she really cant do that. no i hold to she speaks for herself. i honor that. respect that. i listened to her comments this morning. she was NOT speaking for the democratic party. she was speaking of her experience. how she felt. and what she sees happening in her world. we ..... respect and value and hear what she says. we too are living in this world. we are one in this. that does include repugs..... whether they chose to see or not. it is not partisan that she speaks. she is speaking out against the war. out against her rights being violated.

and that is good enough for me to stand behind, and by her side, in force.

but she is not speaking for the democratic party. that would hamper her first of all
and it isnt true secondly.

i dont believe she is democrat nor particularly likes the democratic party, though she will abolutely and should "use" the democratic party. she will jsut as brazenly hurt the party if it fits her fight. i cna respect that. that is cool. i even understand.

we stand for her rights, as we stand for all rights, of all people in this nation

7. Cindy isn't just Casey's mom...
Bravo to Cindy Sheehan!!!

She isn't just poor Casey's mother - she's the conscience of America, telling us to button up our coats as we run outside to challenge the horrible, and awful, world that is being made for us by the PNAC crowd.

She is your mother - and she is mine.

BRAVO!!!

8. As a New Orleans native she lost me
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 12:24 PM by Rex_Goodheart
when she got pissed at media coverage of the Hurricane Katrina disaster, instead of attention to herself, and referred to it as "a little wind."

Her stunts have become embarrassing. I'm sorry she lost her son. I have a son of my own and can only imagine the pain... but she is not representing the anti-war crowd well. There were better ways of protesting George Bush's speech than making an ass of herself by breaking the law.

17. I'll admit she's not very polished, and says things at times that are bad
But hey, she's human. Which is a lot more than I can say for many of those well-oiled Politi-bots up there in Washington who wouldn't step in front of a camera without having a well-rehearsed speech written for them by some professional handlers. So she says some things every now and then that make you wince. But for the most part, she's right on the money about BushCo and his corruption.

21. Just because she was arrested does not mean she broke the
law. In fact, it's pretty clear she did not.

As for NO, when she said that she really had no idea of the scope of the disaster - and it's not as if hurricanes have been unusual over the past couple years. I have no doubt she regrets what she said (I believe she did apologize, later, when it was apparent that this was not just another hurricane).

9. I like Cindy because she says what's on her mind and
I support that right!

i can't say I speak for Cindy, and I can't say she speaks for me, but dammit, I'm glad she's out their speaking.

I refuse to get into the micro-management of Cindy's life, because it's her life after all and she's got to do what she's got to do.

But the proof is in the pudding. Cindy has been brilliant at de-railing Dear Leader's message of fuzzy fascism.

Whether one is a Democratic Party partisan, or a progressive, or an independent who is opposed to the war and other bush corruption, I can't see how anyone could be mad at Cindy for doing such a nifty job on the bush message. She has been stellar.

20. Cindy speaks for Cindy, not for me. I can speak for myself. I
admire her, for her courage and her determination, but I do not want to place an extra burden of being my spokesperson. I will not make her my icon, living my life vicariously through her.

I have seen what happens to icons on this board. Until the latest Conservative outrage, I saw daily posts how "Cindy does not speak for me," "I wish Cindy would go away," "Cindy is making all of us look bad."

Cindy speaks for Cindy. I just happen to agree with her.

23. I don't always agree with her
But I always defend her right to say it, and I don't bash her for it!

I can't tell you how many times I've kicked off rabid Du'ers in this very forum who rag on her all the time. Claiming that she is some spokes person for them.

Cindy is her own person, with her own goals and ideas that at times differ then my own, but we agree on one thing and it's enough to adhere me to her, we both want Bush removed from office.

If she helps in brining awareness to the reality of war, then so be it.
