Poll question: Do you think the GOP would help jettison (impeach) W?
Post non-impeachment hearings about the run-up to the war. POst- minor tactical change on Iraq, nothing better in siz months.

The GOP suddenly looking at 3008 will see Bush as a huge stubborn, myopic albatross around the party with approval rates hovering around 20% could they impeach Cheney first, Install a caretaker VP and then send their leadership to the white House and force Bush's resignation under threat of impeachment?

3. Give it six months and I think it'll be very plausible
The repubics have to run for office in 2008 with the idiot at the helm, further mucking up this country and the world

4. It's a matter of survival
I recall the Watergate scandal. Nixon's popularity was down the tubes, and his dirtiness was starting to rub off on the whole party. In their book The Final Days, Woodward and Bernstein said one chap envisioned the Republics in Congress eager to get rid of the albatross around their necks-when asked about impeachment, "Vote! Vote! they'll scream." Haven't read that book in decades, but I remember that passage.

Since the repukes in Congress today are as guilty for Bush as anything because of their rubber stamp support, I predict they will fall away from him very very quickly once the truth of what has happened comes fully to light.

10. They will not. They remember that the Dems did not
vote for removal, so they won't.

Mitch McConnell will block any action against bush.

8. When a politician sees 60-70% of his/her constituents being "tough on pResidential crime" ...

... they can find a way to call for impeachment and removal from office "for the good of the (Republican) party." Nixon did FAR less and it was the public and the GOP politicians that forced him to resign.

In principle, however, it makes no difference. In principle, there is aboslutely no excuse not to impeach. None. In principle. Sadly, too many aren't principled.

9. The GOP is going to have to, unless they want their party to die permanently.
* has ruined the Republican party and I believe if a poll were taken on party affiliations today, the GOP roster would be less than 30% of the population.
