1. It's using their language and their word choices, which I fucking hate.
2. It sounds really stupid, as in

"I'm going to surge my savings rate by putting more into my money market account!"
or:

"We're planning on surging houshold cleanliness with a new vacuum cleaner!"

Suggested substitutions: "escalate" "buildup" "reinforce" "deploy".

11. Transitive verb: A verb that indicates motion or change
Transitive verb: Roughly, a verb that indicates motion or change
whereas an intransitive verb indicates being in a condition.

More specifically, a transitive verb requires an object.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transitive_verb

For example:

Intransitive: The book is lying upon the table.

Transitive: Sam is laying Judy on the couch. (Judy is the direct object of the verb)

12. Or in this case, "The crowd surged forward", "The waves surged higher"
As opposed to "I surged my car keys" or "Let's surge our bowling scores tonight!"

5. I favor
escalation. Not very different from the Viet Nam years. It's like the same set of problems only slightly different names.

8. I think I like escalation, too.
"Surge" sounds natural, like a simple devastating wave washing over the shore as in "storm surge". It causes damages but it's no one's fault. Ain't nothing natural about this and it is ENTIRELY our fault.

And I object to them using hurricane language to whitewash their guilty asses. They weren't so innocent in the damn hurricane, either.

"My girlfriend and I got engaged." I think a more active announcement such as "We decided to get married," or something else, reflects more of a definitive attitude about the upcoming nuptials.

The excellent suggestions by hatrack are "active", which is what the Administration is in terms of bringing about a worldwide armageddon. Maybe Tony SNow will announce today that "We aren't going to play that game anymore"** and just admit that Bush is trying to start WWIII.

**NPR said this morning that three months ago, Bush would say, "We are winning in Iraq." He doesn't say that anymore, and when Snow was asked about it, Snow said, "... aren't going to play that game any more."

9. While we are at it, can we get rid of "Actors, Players" and "Insurgents?"
and then there's "Robust." These words are RW Think Tanker's code words. Amazing the money spent putting together RW Speak so that they can all be on the same page...lock step and the MSM picks up on it. :puke:

Dear gods, what a travesty of the English language!

Trust the military to give us crap like that. "Boots on the ground" still makes me retch. But at least that one seems to be on the wane.
