I don't smoke but
I don't hate those who do. I'm not going to judge you. I'm not going to spew info that you probably already know. I'm not going to call you anything less than a progressive. I'm not going to ostracize you from society. I'm not going to think less of you as a person.

I want to extend my hand to you. You're here on this board supporting progressive ideas. We're all in this together.

1. Hey, thanks. I'd offer you a Parliament, but that won't work. How about a beer?

Edited on Tue Dec-19-06 06:20 PM by Nutmegger
Though, given the attitude around here lately, make it a coke. Ooops, wait, too much sugar. Damn. Maybe some Evian.

4. I am an allergic non-smoker who is sick to death of the nearly hysterical anti-smoking war that has
been going on in this country for so long. as I told the people at the health department in detroit when they started this crap when I was living there, "you cannot possibly expect me to believe that the one out of three (at the time, now about 1 out of 5, I believe) people who smoke, most of whom are not anywhere near me, are far more dangerous to my health than that black crap you people call air here--air polluted by the auto industry, and all the other industries you will never cite for pollution. I guess I know who is paying you off."

It annoys me that my favourite bars are losing business, and that the nanny state is alive and well (that story of the 3 out of 4 homeowners in a 4-plex who had their little tin god moment as a prime example, or the legislator who is trying to make it illegal to smoke in one's own home. g
yes, I know there are people with serious respiratory problems, but I firmly believe pollution is far more dangerous to my health than smokers, or the "born-again breathers" as one of my friends called the self-righteous, purer than everyone non-smokers.

10. You do have to laugh, especially when people from stinky NY or LA are whining
Now those are some cities full of automobile particulates!!! I'd rather smell cigars around the clock than the shit that floats around those public roads!

Interesting article, here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/18/AR2006121801224.html

D.C. Joins 13 States in Suing Over Air Quality Regulations

Thirteen states and the District sued the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in federal court in Washington yesterday to try to get the agency to strengthen its restrictions on the amount of soot that industries and automobiles can release into the air.

The states and the District say that, under the Bush administration, the EPA has ignored scientific evidence and the advice of its own experts about premature deaths and illnesses caused by soot, the microscopic air pollution known as fine particulate matter. EPA analysis found that a relatively small reduction in yearly particulate matter emissions could prevent thousands of deaths annually in the United States and reduce chronic respiratory disease and asthma attacks.

5. I must agree with every word said by Nutmegger.
It's not my thing, and it hurts my lungs (I'm asthmatic), but I'm not going to stop anyone from it.

Your body. Your choice. And I don't mean that in a sardonic way, either.
