Ladies and gentlemen, Matt Damon.
Here is MSNBC's Chris Matthews with Matt Damon, who is starring in a new thriller about the CIA.

"MATTHEWS: Do you think guys like Cheney. . . . Do you think he knew he was saying stuff that wouldn't turn out to be true . . . ?

"DAMON: I'd like to see him under oath.

"MATTHEWS: I would, too. I'd like to see him with you.

"(APPLAUSE)

"MATTHEWS: Do you think if you waterboarded Cheney, like in the movie, that you'd get a different truth out of him?

"DAMON: Well, there's two answers to that question. One is he doesn't strike me as the kind of person who has any real personal courage. When it was his turn to go, he didn't go. He deferred six times.

"MATTHEWS: He said he had other priorities.

"DAMON: Yes, he had other priorities. And he doesn't seem to have other priorities about sending other kids there and other peoples kids.

"(APPLAUSE). . . .

"DAMON: . . . The second part to the answer is that I believe that if you waterboard anybody, they'll tell you anything and that torture is completely impractical, on top of being dishonorable."

35. Thanks for posting the vid, AZ..
Matthews looks like a new man. Must have just gotten botox and a face peel.
He was looking a bit saggy and hard on the eyes prior to his makeover.
It didn't do anything for his personality though..maybe electric shock therapy?

...being produced by alvin perlmutter, a six-part documentary on "people's history". i had a meeting with mr. perlmutter some months ago about the project (i may end up being involved in some way), during which time he confirmed mr. damon's involvement (among others). the broadcast date has not yet been scheduled.

49. probably...
...although in my discussions, that was never confirmed. the project was pitched to hbo, who turned it down. we concentrated more on ideas for leveraging new media in addition to the tv documentary.

as i said, it's been a few months now since i've spoken with mr. perlmutter, so i'm not really updated, nor do i know if i will be involved at this point. at the very least, we gave him and his people some potential ideas, and i'll be perfectly happy to see them used, even if we're not directly connected to the project. not that i'd mind getting a small consulting fee.

thanks for the good wishes, brotherbuzz!

I beg to differ. In no way can a person be a very very smart man and be a SERIOUS chain smoker. Smart people if they ever smoked quit and very very smart people never start to begin with. Smoking and intelligence don't go together at all. Name one smart thing about smoking.....

61. Many very intelligent people have addictions ...
Let's go one step deeper? Everyone has something that is not healthy in their life.

Are you also saying that overweight people are stupid?

Our intellect, physiology and temperament are not on one plane.

Granted, the majority of highly intelligent people stop smoking but some do not. We do not know the emotional demons that people must deal with on a personal level.

IMO, don't throw stones unless you have NO VICES what so ever.

Anyone pure here? Including myself, we all stray - even geniuses.

Edited on Tue Dec-19-06 08:23 PM by SpiralHawk
The Freepers need to know the truth about their hero.

What does his disgraceful record show?

We do know he has made millions and millios off of war, lining his own pockets and those of other republicon cronies.

Why do they love this chickenhawk? Is it because all republicons are chickenhawks sending our sons and daughters off to die for the sake of their own oil and munitions profits?

It sure seems so.

27. And I LOVE recognition and celebration of celebrities who
use their position to step up to the plate and SPEAK THE TRUTH, whether "some" people have heard it all already or not, because NOT EVERYONE HAS, and such speech encourages those who know the truth to speak up, those who don't know the truth to think about it and those who sorta know the truth from their own observation and thinking to get validation in their good judgement.

IOW: REAL DAMN VALUABLE, whether people understand or appreciate it or not. I for one do.

63. That's absolute BS about Sean Penn doing this now that he has a movie out
You say you didn't hear him saying anything 5 years ago? Well, maybe you weren't listening. Sean Penn has been outspoken against this administration since 2001. He was out there marching against the pending invasion of Iraq back in early 2003 (marched along side him)and he has personally put his ass on the line going to Iraq to investigate and get answers and put his money where his mouth is (taking out full page ads in the NYT's) not only opposing this illegal war, but speaking out against it and the Bush Administration repeatedly. He is always doing this and consistently - not just when he has a movie out. He by the way doesn't have any movie out right now, but is rather working on one. Something he is always doing - kinda like when you get up and go to work each morning.

You say that you only listen to people you know - well, I guess that means you don't listen to many people. But, if we go with that rule, and I apply it personally, then I can tell you this: I know Sean Penn personally. He is a neighbor of mine here in Ross, CA. I see him atleast several times a week. His son goes to school with my kid. He and Robin eat out locally and are involved in the community. He is a great guy, a genuine guy and he truly, truly loves his country. He is also a very smart man and when you speak with him, you come away realizing what an intelligent man and gifted man he is. To make a statement like he has no talent is simply ridiculous. His acting and directing, producing have been fantastic in recent years. I suggest you see a few of his latest movies. And even if your taste doesn't feel he has talent, obviously others in his industry, his peers would disagree, because you don't just get nominated and win academy awards for being a no-talent.

This would not be a surprise. There is this monologue of brilliant writing said by Damon's character. Let me see if I can find it online....

Yep, found it. Love Google! Anyway, for your reading pleasure:

WILL
Why shouldn't I work for the NSA? That's a tough one.
But I'll take a shot. Say I'm working at the NSA, and
somebody puts a code on my desk, somethin' no one else
can break. Maybe I take a shot at it and maybe I break
it. And I'm real happy with myself, cus' I did my job
well. But maybe that code was the location of some
rebel army in North Africa or the Middle East and once they have
that location, they bomb the village where the rebels are
hiding... Fifteen hundred people that I never met, never
had no problem with get killed. Now the politicians are
sayin', "Oh, Send in the marines to secure the area" cus'
they don't give a sh*%. It won't be their kid over there,
gettin' shot. Just like it wasn't them when their number
got called, cus' they were off pullin' a tour in the National
Guard. It'll be some kid from Southie over there takin'
shrapnel in the a@#. He comes back to find that the plant
he used to work at got exported to the country he just
got back from. And the guy who put the shrapnel in his
a*! got his old job, cus' he'll work for fifteen cents a day
and no bathroom breaks. Meanwhile he realizes the only
reason he was over there in the first place was so that
we could install a government that would sell us oil at a
good price. And of course the oil companies used the
little skirmish over there to scare up domestic oil prices.
A cute little ancillary benefit for them but it ain't
helping my buddy at two-fifty a gallon. They're takin'
their sweet time bringin' the oil back, of course, maybe
even took the liberty of hiring an alcoholic skipper who
likes to drink martinis and f@%$n' play slalom with the
icebergs. It ain't too long 'til he hits one, spills the oil
and kills all the sea life in the North Atlantic. So now
my buddy's out of work, he can't afford to drive, so
he's walking to the f!^@n' job interviews, which sucks
because the shrapnel in his a&@ is givin' him chronic
hemorrhoids. And meanwhile he's starvin' cus' every
time he tries to get a bite to eat the only blue plate
special they're servin' is North Atlantic scrod with
Quaker State. So what did I think? I'm holdin' out for
somethin' better. I figure f!!& it, while I'm at it why not
just shoot my buddy, take his job, give it to his sworn
enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby
seal, hit the hash pipe and join the National Guard? I
could be elected President.

Matt's bringing the SEXY BACK!

45. The movie was in the theaters in Dec 97
so they wrote this at least in 95. So I'd say they were before their time or at least paying very close attention to the writing on the wall.

There's a post upthread that says Damon is not very talented! He probably could have made a good living just by writing alone.

Stuck on You? Not exactly one for the time capsules but he has had several good performances. Besides Hunting, I really loved The Talented Mr. Ripley, All the Pretty Horses, and Courage Under Fire.

People just want to be haters.

43. "TORTURE IS COMPLETELY IMPRACTICAL, ON TOP OF BEING DISHONORABLE"
That sums it up.
"Stupid & Mean" has been our foreign policy for 6+ years.

69. The whole black/white issue of 'should we?' misses the 'does it work?' aspect
The MSM really picked up that ball and ran with it for the cabal

50. tweety is so star struck
He would never treat a regular liberal like that, agreeing with what they say, etc. Of all the qualities I dislike about him, that one is very telling.

51. Obviously, Mr. Damon's parents did a wonderful job raising him with morals and integrity.
Thankfully people like this are breeding. I am sure he is raising his child to be just as moral and with integrity.

68. Good for Matt speaking up
What's with letting Matthews get away with that bull about Wag the Dog? The movie was based on the book "American Hero" by Larry Beinhart
about Operation Desert Storm and Bush Sr.
http://www.amazon.com/American-Hero-Larry-Beinhart/dp/0345366638

"In Beinhart's wacky satirical thriller, Hollywood and the GOP stage the Gulf War in order to salvage George Bush's reelection campaign."

71. Feel good thread of the day?
I am glad the public is way more hip to the way things are than they get credit for. The corporate media seems to be falling farther and farther behind in the general knowledge about what the general public really knows about all the lies being told.
