Question for the moderators re: locking smoking threads

I didn't know you would lock threads because there were too many on a certain subject i.e. smoking. I wrote a snarky post with smoking in the title but the post was actually about donating to the DU charity of choice. Do you read the posts before you lock them or do you just lock all posts with an offending title.

I am not trying to make anyone angry, but my post was in direct response to a post by Skinner questioning the feedback on the charity drive. My post actually inspired a few more people to donate and it was locked.

Just wondering.

2. I think the members would be interested in knowing

why all threads on a popular subject were locked? Are they going to lock the mountain climber threads as well? I don't think the reason given (there are too many threads on this topic) is a valid one for locking all threads related to the topic.

I did email the mods directly also.

but I would guess this is going to be locked also. You are supposed to contact mods w/ questions re locks.

Seriously-the Lounge and GD are indistinguishable. And its kinda sad to see this happen because I really used to like this place-I have been lurking since 02. There used to be a lot more of under the radar news items, detailed informative journals, humanitarian appeals etc. in GD.

Some of the posters here (typically the more conservative ones who contribute to a lot of the flaimbait and fluff :shrug:) say those "conspiracy theorists make us look bad". But, I think if anything, it is going to be the amount of pointless flamebait, fluff and the "human interest" stories that are going to make DU appear less serious :shrug:.

There are speciality forums, but most people read GD the most and it seems a bit hypocritical for us to complain about the MSM covering fluff and not talking about serious issues, when serious threads get no views here and sink while posts with 1 line of the format "I think anyone who did X is a poopyhead and not a Democrat" or "Woman smacked her baby in public", keep rising to the top :-/.
