Happy Winter Solstice Season
Happy Winter Solstice Season (or Summer Solstice to those in the Southern Hemisphere).

I don't care what Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity say.

http://geography.about.com/cs/calendarsseason/a/winter.htm

In 2006 at precisely 7:22 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on December 21 winter begins in the Northern Hemisphere and summer begins in the Southern Hemisphere.

2. worth celebrating!
That's the great thing about the solstice. Anyone can go outside, measure where the sun is at noon, and conclude that it's at its lowest for the year. No need to believe in gods or magic. This day has been a point of celebration for people around the world for millenia; it's something that unites us in the face of all the other forces that want to exploit our differences.

(Sorry for the foofiness...)

4. Winter Solstice
Winter Solstice,
Return of the light.
Tomorrow, the days grow longer.
Tomorrow, the cold grows stronger.
Tonight, the longest night.

8. Come up to Fairbanks for a terrific celebration!!
Both Winter and Summer Solstice every year. It's a street party/music & art festival combined, and is great fun. Cold, but fun!

http://www.downtownfairbanks.com/

"We welcome you to downtown Fairbanks! The only city in North America thatguarantees an inch of snow on the ground on Christmas Day and in summer you can river kayak under broad daylight in a t-shirt at midnight.

What to do!

Winter Solstice Festival 2006

We invite you to join us as we help Fairbanks celebrate Winter Solstice 2006.

This annual downtown tradition marks the joy and hope that longer days and a New
Year just around the corner brings to the families of Fairbanks. Highlighted by free
family entertainment and activities including carols, hot cocoa, Santa photos, a holiday
treasure hunt and lots of prizes, the event brings cheer and spirit to our whole
community."

12. The Winter Festival: A Mystery Thinly Veiled
"Festivals are not merely the commemoration of historical events or personalities. They are in and of themselves, each year, spiritual events carrying a significance that grows and deepens with the developing phases of human evolution."

— Rudolf Steiner
