CNN Poll: Only 11% Back Call to Send More Troops to Iraq
By E&P Staff
Published: December 18, 2006 9:55 PM ET

NEW YORK President Bush, according to reports, is strongly considering sending a "surge" of troops to Iraq in the new year -- 20,000 or more. Sen. John McCain and Sen. Joe Lieberman have already backed such a plan. But a new poll for CNN released Monday found that this idea draws the support of only 11 percent of Americans.

Fewer than a third of Americans still support the war in Iraq, and more than half say they want U.S. troops out of the country within a year, according to the CNN poll. This 31 percent support marked a new low in the Opinion Research survey.

"Nearly three-quarters said Bush administration policy needs a complete overhaul or major changes. But only 11 percent of those polled backed calls to send more American troops to Iraq, as President Bush is said to be considering," CNN said.

Pollsters interviewed 1,019 adults for the survey, which had a sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

1. saw this on Scarborough last night
I wasn't watching, but my spouse called me in and said "you've got to see this." It was the result of that poll plus more about our ships being off the shores in the Persian Gulf.

I was really surprised to see bush get such lunatic treatment and on Scarborough, no less.

2. Once the numbers are clear
they'll come up wtih another plan. Remember how poorly their plan to destroy Social Security was received? It died a quick death. Seems to me that the support for more troops is even worse than that.

5. According to the spin machine aWoL is considering agreeing to the military request for more troops
At the same time the Generals are saying they do not want to commit more fodder to the cannons. They can not get their story straight.

11. Well, there is what the military says...
Edited on Wed Dec-20-06 08:08 PM by me b zola
...and then there is what the WH says the military says. The Pentagon may have known for awhile that there are lunatics in the WH, but I believe that they now know that those lunatics are dangerous and need to be stopped.

At least Americans are finally paying more attention to what's been taking place.

15. Wherever oh wherever
will we ever get the 2/3rds majority to impeach?

The answer, people who believe in the survival of the Republican party.

11% support the path baby doc is pursuing. While they are generally well armed, THEY ARE ONLY 11%.

They are fans of Tim McVeigh.

They are what Terrorism in America will look like primarily in the short term.
These are the folks that HSA really need to be turning the screws on.

Remember, the goal of asym warfare is to destablize the state. Consider the condtion that our vets are coming home in, and what they are going to do when they see how they have been screwed by their govt. Impeachment is part of the healing process for returning Iraqi vets. It is Americans showing respect for the constitution they chose to defend. If they see that we the people know that what was done to them was criminal, perhaps they can avoid internalizing their need for justice. Because if we can't, I think America is going to look a lot like Missouri in 1865-82.

That only has to prevent one OK City bombing to justify the difficulty and pain of impeachment. And it will be hard. But ask yourself this, when you consider where Bush is nerving himself to do in Iraq-and possibly Iran -- do you think Trent Lott is going to throw the whole damn party on the grenade to support Dubya's gottendammerung?
