Air America gone in Boston |
|
http://www.boston.com/news/globe/living/articles/2006/12/20/two_am_stations_make_switch_to_latino_music_1166582426/Goodbye Air America, hello "Rumba." Tomorrow at noon, Clear Channel stations WKOX-AM (1200) and WXKS-AM (1430) will switch from "Boston's Progressive Talk" to "La Nueva Rumba," both simulcasting a "tropical" format of primarily Spanish-language announcers and music...

I hope another Boston-area station will pick up the progressive talk format. The bluest state in the country should be a perfect market for it. A station with a signal that can make it more than 5 miles from their transmitter after dark would be helpful. I live 30 miles from Boston, and after the sun went down, I couldn't get their signal. :(

2. Yeah.. when I think of Boston, the first thing that comes to mind is |
|
"tropical music".:sarcasm:
Shame on whoever the "moneyed" people in the liberal world. They have not stepped into the ONE area that would pay off bigtime.
Without ACCESS to the masses, it costs MORE money to present an idea ..Republicans know this, and when our miniscule presence shrinks, we have less and less chance to keep the "fire" stoked.
If people think that this recent election "sealed the deal" for all time, they are in for a shock in 2 years.
Two long years are ahead of us..years that will be spent in non-stop spin for every republican-leaning station (which happens to be MOST of them).

Calling the potential investor "a very strong partner who intends to preserve Air America and expand it at a rapid pace," Kelly said the group may provide opportunities to develop television programming and other venues for progressive talk.

AAR is in trouble, most likely due to rotten management. It's very sad since they have some really good talk show hosts.
However, NovaM, the new network where you can hear Mike Malloy, is getting off to a promising start. Hopefully, if they're released of their AAR contract, people like Randi and Sam can join them.

6. I hope NovaM has continued success. |
|
It has the original financial backers of AAR: The Drobney's. Not to mention other founders: Mike Newcolm, John Zogby (Yes the pollster), and Mike Malloy

8. i have a really good feeling about NovaM |
|
Drobny knows what went wrong at AAR, and he won't let it happen at NovaM. With Mike Newcomb, the Drobnys, and our Malloys, you've got a more grounded team with realistic expectations about pace of growth and raising capital. I feel good about their effort and wish them all the success in the world.

I have zero fucking use for a Rumba station complete in a language I don't speak nor do much of the population here.
So whatever idiot thought there were more Latin dance music fans then there are liberal progressive democrats in MASSACHUSETTS needs to get off the fucking Meth pipe.
The one and only place for non-koolaid drinking talk radio in eastern mass is now gone and apparently so is any interest I had in turning on the radio.
Good luck to 1200 am may they go drown in thier own stupidity.

7. They are a Clear Channel station |
|
So it figures they'd drop the liberal talk format. I just hope another station takes up the format. If it's well-managed, it could really be successful here.

11. New Orleans, Cincinnati, Madison, now Boston |
|

What's the (lowest) common denominator here? Cheap Channel, of course. Wonder if this has anything to do with the impending buyout by private investors rumored to be linked to Carlyle? :tinfoilhat:
Madison and Boston are, of course, two of the major progressive redoubts in all the land, while N.O. had the second-highest vote percentage for Kerry, behind only (!) Buffalo. Yet one by one, their progressive voices are being silenced... :scared:
edit: The New Orleans AAR station was owned by Entercom, another media conglomerate. CC is involved to the extent that they switched an FM classic rock station there to all fascism, all the time, causing Entercom to respond by switching their AAR station to repeats of their other RW programming: sort of a radio domino effect (no, not Fats :-) ).
