Bush is listening to answers in an earpiece. There is no question.
And it's time that the media get some damn answers about this issue. Please suck it up and tune in to his press conference right now. It is so clear when he pauses and stutters, his eyes wander as if he's listening for the answer. There is absolutely no question in my mind.

I want to see camera angles of his back.

On a side - what a total jack-ass.

1. Easy way to find out ...
get some electronics geek to set up a transmitter ... send a brief, high-pitched, high-volume feedback through the frequencies ...

When he's stumbling around for an answer, hit the button ... watch him scream in pain.

he's speaking, most of the time, in full sentences. More content than usual in his answers.

Yup, definintely being fed words thru a ear-piece. Hope the battery goes dead so the world can see the true babbling Bush.

ooh! he ever read the newspaper today!

And my money is on Hughes. I suppose Rove or Cheney could be on the other end.

Either way, this needs to be addressed by the media.

Any speech therapists on DU that can chime in?

14. Agree
Also, did I just hear him coin a new phrase "Sadamists" sending weapons and money across the border when referring to Iran? He is a complete idiot and is struggling for words in such an obvious way. "Sunni extremists" we want to drive them out of Iraq? When did this become a goal to drive out Sunnis? Still talking about success in Iraq. Dumbshit.

16. Someobody in the media needs to discuss this....it's so obvious.
And there answer the first time around, during the debates, was obviously completely bullshit and the media let him get away with it.

I think that he is occassionally repeating full sentences, but most of the time I think he is just listening for cues.

20. The corporate media is not going to tell Americans anything
They are all on bended knee, and have no honor.

That is why the internet has surpassed the corporate blow dry media as the number 1 source for news -- people know the corporate media tells them nothing but blather.

27. ''Let me finish.''
The crazy monkey said during today's presser. I was listening in on the radio, so couldn't tell if he was looking at someone or what, but I remember he said the same during a debate with John Kerry. The odd thing then was, no one was interrupting him. No one we could see, that is.

29. He's said exactly that phrase in other press conferences
One not that long ago. I saw and heard it. No one else was talking. He pauses, listens, responds. To me, it must be the most open secret in Washington. The reporters MUST know. Is it like FDR and the wheelchair? Who wants to just flat out ask the question of Tony Snow? Of anyone?

Does the President employ any type of hearing device when he is speaking in public? Exactly what type of device and why?

I think if you replay any number of his public speaking appearances, particularly those that involve unscripted interaction with others (like press conferences)you can often clearly see him pause, listen, tilt his head and then respond

"Mr. President, there are rumors on the internet, (chuckle, chuckle) (gwb smirks at the word "internet"), that you use an earpiece when you answer questions at a press conference. (gwb's face displays confusion then anger). Could you verify that you do not use an earpiece, as these blogs have suggested?" (body language and facial expressions tell all). MKJ

34. I fed actress her lines in wireless earp piece.
In my capacity as a stage manager I had to feed an actress (some what famous in her time) her lines over a wireless ear piece. That person used my line readings, inflections and word emphasis. We need to see if we can get tape of someone we suspect is feeding him lines that use phrases and inflections that Bush also uses when he is supposedly answering questions live.

It would be very hard to find the frequency they are using to feed Bush lines. However wireless systems are susceptible to picking up cell phone ring tones. Is there strict enforcement of no cell phones or turning off cell phone rules at Bush press conferences?

The actress I helped was not Mary Tyler Moore. However she did quit a Broadway show that was in rehearsal. She was having trouble learning lines and the producers wanted her to use an ear piece.
She left the show but made a joke out of it at an award show by coming out to make presentations wearing giant old school studio head phones.

"We need to see if we can get tape of someone we suspect is feeding him lines that use phrases and inflections that Bush also uses when he is supposedly answering questions live."

Listening to Condi Rice on PBS News Hour just now - her cadence, her inflections sure sound like Bush... right down to her 'uh's and 'er's.

36. The NY Times killed a story on this in 2004, if I recall
They were all set to run a story where a NASA scientist had confirmed that it was some sort of electronic listening device that was on Bush's back during the first debate with Kerry... but, they decided to kill the story.

(remember all those pics that zoomed in on his back that showed an unusually shaped bulge under his suit?)
