So "believing we're going to win" can mean "we are winning" if you say it with verve.

Okay. That might have placed some new HD's in jeopardy but the actual lifting of the chair and tossing it moment came when he said that if he didn't think we were winning he wouldn't have our troops in Iraq.

I prayed for a followup...

"Then Mr. President, if we're not winning in Iraq, doesn't that mean that you think our troops shouldn't be there?"

Unfortunately, David Gregory and Helen Thomas were not able to get in any questions.

...a statement of his belief system.

See, in GWBush's warped worldview, he is the champion of the rich and powerful (the haves and the have-mores), while you and I are consumers (as distinguished from citizens).

The rich and uber-rich scions of the global corporatocracy find national political structures to be inconvenient. They would like us all to believe that our real function is as consumers, rather than as citizens. Therefore, shopping is a real service that we can provide.

These people are scum and their view of the rabble (that would be most of us) is paternalistic at best, murderous at worst. I personally believe only the worst about the lot of them.
