Couric To Interview Mt. Hood Widow - Hey go interview a War Widow |
|
Katie Couric "will conduct an exclusive interview with Karen James, widow of Mt. Hood climber Kelly James, whose body was discovered Monday (18) on the mountain," the network announced today. The interview will take place tomorrow morning in Dallas, and be broadcast on the CBS Evening News tomorrow night...
She still acts like she's on the f'ing Today show. Hey Katie how many war widows/widowers did Bushie create this past week?

1. I agree that Katie should talk to some people who have lost |
|
loved ones in Iraq, but how about both/and, instead of either/or? The widow of the mountain climber shouldn't be dissed, but indeed, the widows of those who died in Iraq should also not be dissed.

4. I'm not dissing the widow - but I don't think it's news |
|
What's she going to say - "he died doing what he loves". I'm just sick of the People Magazine journalism that saturates what is supposed to be news. Like last night - Anderson Cooper did about 10 minutes on the Mt. Hood climbers as the lead before moving on to the Iraq war.

7. I can certainly agree with you about People Magazine journalism |
|
Did you see AC's poll last night about the most important story of 2006? Last I saw, it was the takeover of Congress by the Dems (there were a lot of choices on the poll), and "celebrity" news was in last place, as well it should be. Not saying that the mountain climbing thing is celebrity news, but given all the celebrity crap the "news" outlets throw in our faces, the mountain climbing story is a step above that.
I doubt, though, that Jane and Joe Newsperson will pay any attention to that. Sometimes I want to throw things at the TV whenever another Brittany/Paris/K-Fed story comes on. I really couldn't care less about their drunken, panty-less antics. And based on that poll, neither could the majority of people. Too bad the "newsies" don't get it.

11. I get in an especially bad mood around this time of the year |
|
The News seems to take the last half of the year off just like Bushie in August. I get peeved on weekends too. There's no news on weekends except for the Sunday morning Meet the Mostly Repubs/Neocon/McCain pundit shows.
And I'm really bah humbug about rolling out the Stories of the Year two weeks before the year ends. The sarcastic part of me hopes that if the world ever ends it will happen the last week so the newsies will have missed the biggest story of the year. Like 2004 when top stories had already been named, then came the tsunami.

I have seen interviews with families of dead or missing servicemen and women. I think even Katie did one or two when she was still on Today.

5. Point is on Today - I don't think it belongs on the CBS News |
|
On the Today show they have 2 hours to fill with these stories and I have no problem with it. With the CBS news they have about 22 minutes or so.

6. I almost am going to cry from your taking tragedy into politics. |
|
Both of these, you mention, are a tragedy in planning and operation, the boys in Iraq, the greater, the boys on the mountain, the lesser. Point is, men have died in both. Don't matter what Katie Couric has to to say, for that don't mean nothing. You want something positive from this Hood recuse mission? That the experience from trying to find missing climbers to areas in the world where that expertise is needed, like Afghanistan. See where that goes from there.

10. But what's the widow going to tell us? |
|
I'm sorry for the climbers, but this is not a national tragedy IMHO. I'm not dissing this widow please understand, but some people have become IMHO professional victims thanks to TV News. My case in point is Natalie Holloway's mom. I'm sorry that her daughter is missing and probably dead but why is she still on my TV - I think I saw her last week (Larry King?) as I was switching channels.
I could even undertand the saturation coverage of the Kim family tragedy - a lot of us could put ourselves in their tragic place, but mountain climbing? And when these guys didn't even think enough of their own safety to rent a $5 locator? To me it's just not a story that merited the amount of coverage it got. Give me 30 seconds on the search and move on.

I somehow think she does only what they tell her to do.
