1. If they keep you captive
on a plane on a runway for 5 hours, as has been reported here, is that kidnapping ?

3. Hell, they do that
all the time in Detroit even when the sun shines! Last huge snowstorm they had, NWA kept people in planes for a lot longer and damn near had revolts with people threatening to open up emergency exits....toilets were overflowing and everything.

My prayer to the DU'er with a stranded hubby. We used to use our snowmobile to get stranded folks off the freeway when we lived in N Wisconsin.

42. Still closed for internal fights -
for the whole of Friday too. Seems, according to radio reports, to be having quite an affect on passengers who needed those flights to connect with International flights. Fog isn't actually too bad off the airport - just back from dancing a couple of miles east of there up the Thames. I guess the airport is more affected due to the large expanse of open ground there. Hope your kid is ok.

8. Thanks, I'm encouraging him to go to the home of our friends who live up that way.
He's not having any of it, right now. He's determined to get back here.

Our last call, he told me that there many people abandoning their cars and trying to walk to their destinations. MKJ

20. Me, too. However, he's still making forward progress and the traffic is much less.
I think this is one of the worst areas of the metro area, and if he can get south of Hwy 287, he'll probably be home within another hour.

I have dinner in the crockpot, waiting for him.

HumVees to rescue motorists.

How many are here in the state, I wonder? MKJ

9. He's stuck on Hwy 287, and knows that I-36 is closed. He'll probably take 287 to Federal and Federal
to Speer. Speer is probably in nominally decent shape. I took Federal coming home from work, and it was gnarly at the hill going south from I-76. Otherwise, it wasn't too bad, but that was three and a half hours ago. MKJ

10. I'd love for him to do that. We have good friends who live near where he's stuck.
He's lived here since his teens, really feels confident he can get home. If he is stuck out there another hour or two, I hope he'll reconsider trying to get home and find a safe haven for the night. MKJ

Denver.

He has the bad luck to be in an area that wasn't managed very efficiently by the municipality.

Denver county has it covered, if he gets on the south side of I-25, he'll do fine. MKJ

my thoughts are with you and your hubby.

My youngest just moved into an apartment in the I25/Speer area. I just spoke with her and was told things are very hairy; however, she and her roomies went ot the grocery/video/liquor stores and are now ready to sit it out.

Please keep us posted on your "fella"...in the meantime, my thoughts are with both of you.

22. Sorry he's not home BHP-- I just got home myself in Denver
from Golden and it was very very treacherous. My Subie Outback did ok, but heavier vehicles were getting snowbound and I stopped twice to help move vehicles out of the way. An awful lot of people just abandoning cars....I take snowstorms pretty much in stride, but the size of this one caught me a bit off guard. (I've not been watching tv lately).

I remember the 2003 Spring blizzard when they opened malls to the stranded and ultimately even the National Guard's hummers were snowbound. Then again the Halloween blizzard a few years before-- I spent 72 hours at DIA trying to get to New Orleans. Comparatively, I'm in good shape today as I'm home, with power (fingers crossed), stopped by for food and beer, and a very happy, tired warm pup (she just LOVES this kind of snow).

I hope Denverites get home and I feel for the travelers stuck at DIA. During my 72 hours there a few years back I was so frustrated. I'd driven up from Ft. Collins and had a fully supplied car with snowshoes and just wanted to leave the airport and walk back to one of the Pena Blvd hotels. They wouldn't let me...Aaargh.

Good luck all. Stay warm and safe.

26. Being at DIA in March 2003 should earn you a traveler's medal.
Nothing like a little ripping of the roof, creating an obstacle to getting some food, to create extremely high stress circumstances.

To you...:toast: MKJ

Paralyzed traffic, in a blizzard, is a challenge. He's reading the situation and says he's being pragmatic. MKJ

28. "says he's being pragmatic"
His choice of words makes me smile. You just know he has to be okay when in the midst of all this horrible weather he uses the word 'pragmatic', right? :)

Been many many years since I've experienced blizzard conditions, just watching the feed brings back memories.

Wishing you all the best. May the power stay on and everyone make it safely to shelter.

29. My husband's latest report : Many abandoned vehicles, the city of Broomfield hasn't managed this
situation very well.

No snowplows, no cops, no leader signs, and a three hour wait to go three miles.

He is now traveling through the NW outskirts of Denver, and is driving on snow pack with only a few other drivers and expects to be home within an hour or so.

Broomfield county, newly incorporated 2 yrs ago, and politically conservative, dropped the ball.

The predominantly blue counties kicked ass in managing public works. Just saying. MKj

33. When the Blizzard of 1977 hit Buffalo, it was a Friday afternoon and a lot of people were out
cashing paychecks. Once the gridlock hit a certain point, nothing could move. One fellow from my office went to pick up his wife and ended up spending the next 24 hours inside a chicken take-out. Something similar happened a few years ago - a big storm swept in just as the school busses hit the road. A lot of kids spent the night at fire stations because that was the plan should the buses be unable to deliver the kids to their homes.

Keep some blankets and munchies in the car and never travel without a good coat, gloves, hat and snow boots in the back seat. (A lot of female fashions are totally unsuitable for hiking even a block in the snow.)
