Mike Barnicle just called Bush "delusional."
On Scarborough Country: We have a president of the United States who is isolated, he's delusional, he is stubborn. He has had one intervention that clearly didn't work--the Baker Hamilton Report--he is clearly in need of another intervention.

44. Those who are anti-war
should not handcuff themselves by defining things in a narrow and rigid manner. The example of Matthews helps us see that. There are two distinct things involved: {a} beliefs about the war; and {b} feelings about Bush as a person. Each is a continuum. We limit ourselves by thinking they are the same, and viewing the big picture in black and white terms.

The two continuums do, of course, intersect. Thus, we have four quadrants: {1} those who oppose the war, and dislike Bush; {2} those who oppose the war, but like Bush; {3} those who support the war, and like Bush; and {4} those who support the war, but dislike Bush.

The national polls that show the increasing numbers of Americans who oppose the war indicate that there is a growing percentage of "middle" America who, though they may not share the progressive democrats' dislike of Bush as an individual, have withdrawn their support for his war policies. If we hope to end the war, it may require progressive democrats not limit themselves by demanding that everyone else share their contempt for Bush as an individual. We may view people like Matthews as having flaws, because he has a different opinion of Bush as a person than us, but we would be investing in our own flaws if we refuse to recognize that the anti-war movement is widespread and includes a variety of people with a wide range of opinions.

27. Really. His infatuation with Bush has been so over-the-top, that...
...any anti-war noises he may have made, in the past, must have been drowned out. When he swooned over Bush's carrier charade, for example, it was obvious that Matthews was damned proud of how his commander-in-chief conducted the war. And on many other occasions, he was quite belligerent toward guests who criticized the war. I don't have specific citations but I know what I saw.

45. Yes. Chris Matthews was one of the few people on TV opposed to going
into Iraq. Hardball was one of the few shows I could stomach watching in late 2002/ early 2003.

I think that once the invasion began, Matthews stopped his criticism in a show of "supporting the troops," but up until the first bombs were dropped, he was one of the few people speaking out AGAINST invading Iraq. Phil Donahue was the only other one that I recall, and we all know what happened to his show as a result.

You're right. Diabetes is deadly. The granddaughter of a friend of mine has it, and she was in ICU just last week, in a diabetic coma--very near death. She's "okay," now, but her glucose levels are not at all stable. Nothing looks wrong with her on the outside, though, and because of that, I'm afraid that her parents don't take her illness as seriously as they should. :(

Please accept my sympathies, my mother was a diabetic, and one of my earliest memories was standing at her knee in the mornings while she jammed a big fat needle into her leg..

When we came home from our Thanksgiving trip to the inlaws we ran into the folks renting from us downstairs, specifically the father of the family. I immediately noticed that he'd lost a LOT of weight, he admitted to 27 lbs in a MONTH.

I told him to get his ass to a doctor TODAY, he'd been refusing all that time. I used to work in a VA Hospital after Nam and my job was to take care of the Bodies of those who'd been so frightened by war that they'd gone over the edge and were institutionalized - they couldn't communicate, so I was to read all of their case histories 300 of them, and observe them as they went about their meanderings in the underground tunnels between buildings, where they ate, and other areas.

Then send them to a doctor after I'd made a sort of poor man's preliminary diagnosis, I got pretty good at it, reading the body language.

I developed a real ability to 'see' pain. In some ways that's MY Disability now, when in large crowds I can 'FEEL' the pain being generated by too many people, so no rock stardom for me :)

So I let the renter know that from all indications, extreme thirst, cramps, other things, that he probably had onset adult diabetes. It didn't have to be cancer, etc

Still wouldn't go. I told him that he could pass out in a car while driving, kill his whole family and maybe other families, that sooner of later it WAS going to happen, and when I finally confronted him in front of his wife (not being an asshole, just refusing to let it go), she started crying, saying how worried she was.

This led him (and the fact that I told him to skip the rent this month and go to the fucking emergency room) to seek help. And like I said, they booted him up right there with insulin and started a management program.

We got a thank you card today, and this month's rent, but he's still working on the last months, our Christmas present to him and his family.

I'm just glad he's ALIVE, because most people have no idea how SERIOUS diabetes is.

Just wanted to let people know that it IS survivable if you find you have it, and also there is no SHAME involved in it either, this guy felt less of a man, and I called bullshit on that too.

Poor Catwoman, I wish I could properly convey my sympathy for your loss. I hope she had a happy life while she was here, and at least in this life she had a great sister like YOU :)
