Lots of DUers are way more manipulated by CM$M than you'd like to admit |

3. I read that story somewhere online a few days ago. I saw your subject |
|
line and knew what you were talking about but didn't feel I had anything to add. Another sad story.
I didn't get into the threads re making people pay for their rescues or not either.

4. I read that one twice .... |
|
But: I was too busy arguing in the other 5,000 Mt Hood threads .... sorry
Mea Culpa:
1) I live in Portland, and so this is a local story here ... 2) The news of Himilayan climbers travels slowly, and doesnt gain the critical mass that national media can grow into .... Blame the media ? ... perhaps ..... 3) I'm not sure if this is so bad, or that it means everyone is suckered in here, or that something is wrong with us DUers ..... We're just faulty human beings ... perhaps expecting MORE than that is the problem .... 4) I hope their family is rich, because they will get little sympathy here ...
They are 'stupid', you see ....

7. For me the question posed by people going |
|
we don't need to pay et al posed an ETHICAL question and reflect something that is quite ugly that has emerged in the country
Incidentally I have somewhat of an undestanding of how climbers on Mt Hood, and miners in Pensilvannia (I just covered 100 years) make it to the news... man versus nature, it has a certain chic
How do blondes in Aruba make it to the front page? White, all Ameircan kid vs the ugly foreigners
But hey that is a whole different ball of wax, and worthy of discusion as well
