Lewinsky graduates from London School of Economics
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former White House intern Monica Lewinsky, whose sexual relationship with U.S. President Bill Clinton led to his impeachment, has graduated from the London School of Economics, her publicist said on Wednesday.

Lewinsky, who was 21 when she became involved with Clinton, is interviewing for jobs in Britain, publicist Barbara Hutson said.

When Lewinsky, 32, received her Masters of Science degree in Social Psychology last Thursday "the audience of students and parents erupted in spontaneous applause. ... It was a very emotional moment for her," Hutson said in a statement.

Hutson said Lewinsky spent the past year studying and "staying away from the London social scene."

54. I find the sarcasm smiley insulting
and it leads to the dumbing down of those reading, i.e. if you don't see it you don't have to think about whether it is sarcasm or not. The clue I gave was the ACTUAL use of the word "whore" immediately preceeded by "stupid." Others have danced around it (though my post was first) but my usage of it on a progressive site seems to be pretty clear sarcasm.

63. See now, that kind of reads like sarcasm.
There are plenty of shitheads here who think very poorly of women. I get that. I tried to go over the top to make the sarcasm/satire clear. Also, I've been here a long time (though my time in GD is often cyclical) and hope people will at least know enough about me to not take sexist remarks as reality. Now if it was a Christian-bashing comment it might be harder

74. The sarcasm emoticon is there for a reason. Many people
do pick a silly argument over a few scarcastic words that they don't get, but I have always thought that they were trolls stirring up the pot. We who have been posting at this progressive site found that out the hard way and by writing sarcasm it stopped any silly flame wars. The Administrators finally provided the emoticon.

and her affair with Bill Clinton onto every cable news show and the front page of every newspaper for several years and she had now entered history as an object of scorn and a butt of jokes.

Clinton. Monica Lewinsky claimed she was hounded by the press, hated it and wanted to be left alone. Having a publicist doesn't sound to me like she wants to fade into obscurity.

It's a necessity when you're a public figure, and whether anyone (except the republicans) wants it or not, she's a public figure.

think joking about it is funny and when the press writes about President Clinton they bring it up. She knew what she was doing when she did it and I am tired of hearing that she was a victim. That is the Republicans tactic to say poor, young, innocent Monica and big, bad Clinton. She wants a publicist so she doesn't fade from the public eye.

Except for being used by the RWers after Clinton.

Good try at a strawman, though.

Your post shows your ignorance of why people get publicists, and what a publicist actually does.

Oh, the RWers just love this.

53. I know exactly what a publicist does and there is no reason...
for Monica Lewinsky to have one now, except to stay in the news. A publicist either keeps your name out there or they try to put you in a good light when there is bad publicity. The bad publicity was years ago and over the years she has tried to stay in the public eye. In a roundabout way on here people are saying she was a victim, but she was a victim of her own doing. I am not creating a strawman, it is my opinion about Monica Lewinsky. I am not ignorant and I rather resent that comment.

62. Because
part of keeping her OUT of the news is finding ways to kill the reputation she's been given as a monster whore. Portraying her as a normal person who is achieving an admirable and normal milestone helps prevent a whole lot of tabloid articles.

She's not making any money off of this small amount of publicity, and she's probably paying a hefty amount to make sure she doesn't become tabloid fodder again. Giver her a break. I don't know why you are latching onto this with such hatred.

don't care what Monica Lewinsky does. I just wish she would go away. Why would she become tabloid fodder again? How many people do you think would have known about her graduating, unless she had her publicist announce it. To me she is setting herself up for more fodder. She wrote a book, went on HBO, publicized her handbags and now her graduation, yet you claim she really wants to stay out of the spotlight. She has a strange way of doing that. I hope she gets a job, gets on with her life and has her publicist keep her out of the news, as you claim is a publicists job.

68. Anybody know knows anything about public relations
knows that much of the effort is to control what gets said. You have to find a way to dictate the message to prevent other people from getting their message out there.

You know that the republicans will make some efforts to use her to smear Hillary Clinton. Monica Lewinsky would be a damned fool to go the route you suggest. If she just hid away and had nobody out there managing publicity for her then she'd end up being a tool for the republicans, again.

The only way she can get the media to leave her alone is to build a media image that is boring and normal and her publicists are doing a good job of that.

Give her a break. Why isn't Jeff Gannon getting investigated and prosecuted as well persecuted in the same way? I'm sure if a special counsel come in to investigate, there will be proof uncovered that someone was getting a bj from him in a very high office in the White House.

I suspect Monica does the same thing and I don't blame her. No one on this planet should have to be constantly hounded through life over a freakin blow job.

36. Does she have a middle name?
If she wanted to "escape" the limelight, she could have legally changed her name and started using her middle name instead of monica.

and when people recognized her, she could have easily said " Yes I do look like her, don't I" and left it at that.
people have a love-hate relationship with notoriety..

She did something that MANY women through history have done (presidents are often philanderers), and if she had not befriended Linda Tripp, we would probably have never even known her.

The more she "protests", the more notorious she makes herself..

I haven't seen her protest anything since the scandal first broke. She has been very thorough at never mentioning Bill Clinton or the White House or anything about the scandal.

She has simply said "no comment" a lot and hired a publicist to kill stories as much as possible.

I don't see where she's making herself notorious.

"Slut, "homewrecker, "controller," etc.

It's easier than seeing her as a human, and as someone who desperately has tried to move on. The woman needs to be left alone. She was a victim of the right wing conspiracy hitmen who tried to bring down Clinton, her rights were spat upon, she was intimidated and threatened by the government. She had bad judgment, she made a mistake. Who the hell wants to be judged for the REST of their lives by a mistake they made at 22?

over something so silly. I think the media had ignored her and the issue (except for when Joey got arrested once again)and she had been allowed to move on and have an anonymous life. Until she wrote the book and did the whole talk show circuit.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I just forgot about it all until I saw her on TV promoting her book and her new life outside of the bright lights of the media (thereby inviting the media back in and introducing them to her new face/new husband/children and private life!)

and most wore casual clothes (to put her at ease), except for McCollum of Florida, who wore a suit and tie. He asked Monica a salacious question and she responded by answering (in effect), "I'd tell you, but I don't want to put a wrinkle in your shirt," coming off as a Mae West clone. Seems they realized at that point they couldn't portray her as victim.

She was the younger one in every one of those relationships. How impure does that make each of those men who were older and in positions of authority?

I have a difficult time with the concept that sex makes women "impure." And with the concept that it's the woman's fault. The sexist implications are painful.

It was a low self-esteem issue, imo. I've known several other women who've done the same thing, and EVERYONE had a severe self-image problem.

Her relationship with Linda Tripp also showcase this, imo.

She wasn't a victim, but neither was she some femme fatale user.

I've always felt quite sorry for Monica Lewinsky, and the way our government and its elected officials and employees treated her just made me feel even more sympathy for here.

Again, she deserves a break.

And whats your problem with the phrase "this woman"? Isn't that what she is? At least I didn't call her the manipulative blank I think she is. I think that Clinton was judged far more harshly than this little tramp, and she has never expressed any remorse and let Clinton be pilloried. He admits he was wrong. She has never even taken any responsibility.I think she is disgusting. Sorry. I remember her talking about how she could "destroy' her teacher with one phone call and how good it made her feel.I also remember that she flashed Clinton, he didn't come on to her.But he sure responded. She was the biggest mistake he ever made.Monica was asked on her special if she was sorry for what her actions cost the country and she said "NO".She is a beast. And her grades were dreadful in college and I don't for one minute believe she "earned" her economocs degree in the traditional way.

I'm not sure if Jagger ever graduated from LSE,
but he was a student there, and considering how few people in Britain attended universities in those days, that was quite an accomplishment. Even by the time my husband was a university student in the UK (graduating in 1981), only about 5% of British students were accepted as university students.

The London School of Economics is one of the finest educational institutions in Britain. Monica Lewinsky might make dumb choices when it comes to pursuing relationships, but she can't be unintelligent if she graduated from LSE. Competition is fierce for places and somehow I don't think giving a BJ to a sitting US President would count for much if she didn't have more to offer on her CV.

with instructions from the Lagoon creature, Lucienne Goldberg, mommie dearest to Jonah. They all had an agenda and siezed up the chance to smear Clinton through Monica.

21. Many smart people trust bad people.
Intelligence doesn't necessarily mean you're good with relationships.

24. She made alot of money off of her book, for this very reason
She stated then that that's why she wrote it, because she knew it would be very difficult for her to be hired and earn a "regular" living.

29. Oh flame me: I am happy for her. She is more than the person
the corp. media made her out to be. Let's all remember that she was used to bring down a dem. president. For us to continue to see her as a cartoon is to accept the meme shoved at us during that horrible time. Best wishes to her and all humans trying to do something for each other.

75. I'm happy for her. I blame Clinton, that ogre Linda Tripp & repugs
Not Lewinsky. Besides becoming involved with a married man (which a lot of women with poor judgment do), she didn't do anything that bad. She doesn't deserve the scorn and ridicule that she has gotten. Her life is practically destroyed.

78. I don't ever remember Lewinsky have drunken romps like the
Bush twins. She was a fat kid who used her sexuality to feel better about herself. It's too bad she nailed a President in her neediness, because that is all it was.
