Now, I agree with the general theme on the thread that what the people did with the hoax is bad, however, I'm at a loss as to what they could have done that would have gotten the same or better result.
Write the company in question, or a congressman? As a rule that will get you, at best, incremental change. Usually this would be enough except for the fact that the environment is degrading faster than incremental change can fix (think of it like a math problem, if you punch a hole in a barrel that allows 1 gallon of water a minute to come out and fill it with 1/2 a gallon of water a minute, you'll have an empty barrel real quick).
Protests? These have proven, at best, ineffective since around 1980.
Voting blocs? Other than MoveOn.org, most of the voting blocs I've seen that are effective aren't on the left.
So, what can we do to create rapid change that doesn't harm others?
