202- 225-4711
I stated that I would prefer he have the Constitution and Bill of Rights on his wall. Asked if he was familiar with the separation of church and state. Said that I was horrified by his slur against another major religion and wondered if Mr. Goode felt he had the right to "pick and choose" WHO he would represent. Did he feel free not to represent ALL non-Christians in his district, or merely Muslims? What about Jews? Buddhists? Atheists? Agnostics? Does he represent them, or does he only represent Christians? And does he represent ALL Christian groups equally? Are Catholics up there with the Baptists? Or does one need to be born twice to be considered Christian in his view?
Told his office that I wanted a reply.

If you want to call and voice your opinion his number is 202- 225-4711

ROCKY MOUNT -- U.S. Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr. will not apologize to Islamic groups for a letter he wrote that decries Muslim immigration to America, his press aide said yesterday.

<snip>
"We need to stop illegal immigration totally and reduce legal immigration and end the diversity visas policy pushed hard by President Clinton and allowing many persons from the Middle East to come to this country," Goode wrote.

"I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States if we do not adopt the strict immigra- tion policies that I believe are necessary to preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States of America and to prevent our resources from being swamped."

4. I found it:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x2959272

Apparently, this Congressman sent letters to constituents that said that unless his immigration bill was passed, more Muslims would move to this country and be elected like Keith Ellison.

Like there are no Muslims who were born and raised in this country. :eyes:

6. Text of Goode's letter
This letter was sent to hundreds of constituents by the office of Republican Rep. Virgil Goode Jr. of Virginia:

Thank you for your recent communication. When I raise my hand to take the oath on Swearing In Day, I will have the Bible in my other hand. I do not subscribe to using the Koran in any way. The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don't wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran. We need to stop illegal immigration totally and reduce legal immigration and end the diversity visas policy pushed hard by President Clinton and allowing many persons from the Middle East to come to this country. I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States if we do not adopt the strict immigration policies that I believe are necessary to preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States of America and to prevent our resources from being swamped.

The Ten Commandments and "In God We Trust" are on the wall in my office. A Muslim student came by the office and asked why I did not have anything on my wall about the Koran. My response was clear, "As long as I have the honor of representing the citizens of the 5th District of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives, The Koran is not going to be on the wall of my office." Thank you again for your email and thoughts.

Sincerely yours,

Virgil H. Goode, Jr.

10. no, but as taxpayers, we pay his salary--regardless of the district. and since the members of
congress represent not only their districts, but all the people, jerks like him need to know that their views are unacceptable in members of the congress of the UNITED STATES.

and, as pointed out below, it is always fun to annoy anyone on the gop side, including staffers. I always conclude my phone calls to dobson's little minions with "and since you work there, I can only assume you are as bigoted, hatefilled and ignorant as he is"

His story is getting much more coverage today in the news - he will be on Faux News with Neil Cavuto this afternoon to "discuss" it.

Should be amusing.
